Pros: improves your skill, get gear.

Cons: static group commitments, tolerating sociopathic gearhead parse dbags, "must already know entire fight" join requirements, and a tired irrelevant loot rolling system with weekly lockouts.

And then on top of all of those, the game gives you multiple alternative paths to get gear that are "good enough" but without having to put up with most of the raiding jerkitudes and lockouts.

Sure seems like raids are treated like PVP at this point. A tacked-on niche from fear of people un-subbing. Its days are numbered.

At least Raid Gear is actually relevant for the content you get it from. Due to the low ilvl sync of 150, any PVP gear above i200 is glamour for PVP unless it's Crit/Det for a slot that didn't have a piece that was easier to get.

Getting better at the class you're playing, mechanics that are fun, requiring certain awareness and positioning (I'm a recent player, so I haven't experienced all a1s-a8s)

The social aspect like coordinating the roles and raids having a certain learning curve/feeling of progression

No motivations in doing savage. The gear is not a big upgrade for the general content. Requiring to get 8 people on at the same time and have the same goals. Running it over and over becomes as tedious as running experts. Only pro is the clearing and learning the fights the first time.

Sorry ahead of time for the wall'o text this has been weighing on my mind for a while.

I am a hardcore raider at heart yet i find myself raiding less and less, every static i join falls apart because people have no respect for other people's time and treat it as "just a game" so they would just not log in as soon as something better in their life appears. This leads to the static falling apart because they have no respect for the the idea of what responsibility is. You tell someone your going to be there...be there. If you were always planning to not show up because of something better in your life came up...why join the static in the first place? The whole point was your going to devote a time slot where all 8 people could guarantee to log in, so there was never any excuse from the start of why couldn't come. You agreed to the principal that you were available. Don't really buy the "important responsibility came up so i couldn't be there" line because of the fact that most people wouldn't warn you about the possibility of it in the first place like most of the decent statics i was In would give us advanced notice. You let them know in advance.

That's why things like raid finder, and in the next patch cross server party finder, are a step in the right direction end game content should be opened up to be like the rest of the game and be very accessible. There should be huge incentives for doing savage with cross server random's like expert would offer, because it would increase the chances of you ever getting a party at all which would overall increase the experience MOST players would obtain in these kind of fights. With the community so toxic/selfish at times its wonder a person without a static could get any clears at all.Yes random savage parties like we see in raid finder are already there, but what i am talking about is people having incentive to help other's through high-tier rewards. Yes there going to be a lot bad parties, but there would be overall less bad parties when more serious parties are made through party finder since MORE people had MORE chances of actually practicing the fight. That's why you see so many people say end game clear rates are low, or people don't want to do high end game content.

The problem isn't with end game raiding being difficult the problem is with the community and the system of forcing you to get something like a static to actually even attempt... let alone clear the fight which makes the process to long and painful compared to other types of content. Not only is the raid content fatiguing intself with difficulty, but actually getting a party of ANY KIND good or bad is even more exhausting. I guarantee you if end game raiding was more about giving skilled players more reason to help newbies out, like people who already cleared get a bonus just for joining a savage roulette...not even clearing but just getting a party and participating for X amount of mins and you could get this bonus one a day. I believe the community would be better off and we would see higher clear rates for more harder content and more players attempt the content.

Its all about how it's designed, after all how bad would ques for expert would be if scripture tomes only got you glamour? There needs to be incentive to make it so players see the time put in is acceptable for the reward your getting. I know alot of in game crafters who don't even want to bother making gear at all for a number of reasons and stopped crafting all together, but the biggest reason probably is...why bother when the time put in is not acceptable for the reward you would get after all that effort? Making things easier to get into like savage, and maybe having incentives for experienced players to help others more with duty finder/raid finger bonuses would reward players who already completed the content to actually join those newbie parties and be forced to stay for so many attempts to get their reward. Thats just one idea that could help make more players better on average so the raiding community would increase.

So many players are so selfish in that they don't want their time in being wasted at all, they have families, jobs, responsibilities. That anything that wastes their time is seen as a bad thing yet they don't understand the hypocrisy of a playing a MMO where all your efforts are going to be reset/dashed away anyways when a new item level comes out. Wasting your time is only bad when it doesn't agree with what you want? Well then that is essentially just a selfish form of reasoning that ignores other things you do such as crafting(since you don't really progress in raiding through this due to the imbalance of effort/reward) or bird farming or house decorating, etc. All these things are a big of waste of time comparable to helping others learn how to raid. It's all where we place our emotions i guess, making your house look cute is more emotionally rewarding then showing a player the ropes...esp. when that person doesn't even want to listen to your advice and keeps making the same mistakes.

It all comes to the average player being selfish, nothing more.A little bit of selfishness is fine, why play the game if you don't enjoy it after all? However you cannot ignore that this is not a single player game, you need to foster the community a bit, thats why roulette's exist in the first place. If SE only gave incentive for players to do things they liked then you would see a lot of newer players seeing the game as unwelcome and boring cause they would be constantly struggling to find parties for OLDER content just so they could progress. Is it any wonder they are going to offer jump to 50 potions for players, because SE knows how much of the veteran community is burned out on doing older content through roulette's? Same reason they are changing the way players progress through relic next expansion instead of making it heavily reliant on older content like previous relics were.

Despite people's burn out on older content you can still understand how important and effective incentives are.

The number one reason i don't raid is due to lack of groups. Not good groups, not bad groups, just groups. People don't have incentive to help others...only themselves when it comes to savage or extreme primals. That's why you see how expert has a average wait time of 5-10 mins, and things like savage literally take you DAYS to get a group for, if at all due to time constraints and loot constraints, that only make people even more less willing to help. Making raiding more accessible would expand the raiding community and increase the time people remain subbed to the game, not decrease it. I seriously think SE would be afraid to give players easier access to groups and ease up on loot restrictions because of a fear that people would get gear faster and they think people login 90% of the time to get BiS gear at end game, but really that's only half the reason, what's the point of getting end game gear if you never use it for anything? People want to use that earned gear to run content first, get gear second. The whole reason anyone wants to progress is to become more powerful. Why become more powerful? To run content.

Indeed. I would like to add one thing. I don't raid in FF XIV, nor do PvP because it has "no in-game goals" (by goals i'm not talking about pvp grind reward such as glamour or mounts). So if you enjoy PvP for the sake of PvP, or raiding for the sole sake or Raiding, then FF XIV is fine.

For me it lacks element I found in other MMO that made me want to get the BiS gears ever, and that would motivate me to PvP. Because I currently don't care about getting BiS, because once I got it I would have no real use for it.

However if there was thing such as PvP Castle Siege where I could use my PvE BiS so my FC could win temporary occupation of the castle. Or any similar activity where collecting BiS gear in raiding would mean a boost in PvP efficiency, while providing an interesting goal for a Free Company, that would certainly be for me a motivation for raiding ( assuming raiding would give the BiS gears.)

Now I'm not saying FF XIV should be like that. I chose to play FF XIV for what it is. But I'm just giving my view for why getting BiS gears or PvP does not interest me in this game.

The problem as I see is is that raiding progressing with others that are not on the fast and better schedule is a dead end.
I have worked on my gear, my techniques (healer) and learned the non-savage fights, and I am willing to work and slowly learn to get into the Savage modes. But I can't because at this point Party Finder for incomplete never fills usually in less than two hours, and if it does and someone is learning the party falls apart.
It has become basically a dead end unless a person is on the more cutting edge of players and progress and those more in the middle or so hit the brick wall that no matter what we do we very likely won't get in. I would join other people as well of them same mind, but finding such in the game is like looking for a needling in the haystack.

I raid because who doesn't like to see a lala tank giant scary monsters?

But I agree with the previous points, it's hard to get into raiding unless you get lucky or build up a reputation. I raided final coil and the first Alex. I took a break and then got back into it in A9S I pugged it for a couple months and then was invited to a group. I was lucky because I knew people and had a rep for being competent.

For people w/out exp it is much harder to get started. I am in a couple LS that try to pug raid. I help out when I can and it is slow but more people are getting involved. This is all community side and hard to balance with real life. But! If you have time/energy put a LS together for people looking to learn and you will find vets that are happy to help. I do and so do many others. What will make a huge difference is the cross world PF. I will be up there teaching if you want to join. Look for the last name Quigg.

I raid because it's time to demonstrate some dominance to a cat who keeps hugging my winter ration popotoes and giving them cookies without my permission. D:<

    Raids, my view

Personally, I would like to see more POTD-type raiding but they have to open up more floors for ease of finding groups. I have been stuck at floor 100 for 2 months now with no solvent group to play with. I enjoy POTD-it's fast enough, fun and you can earn a decent Kinna Weapon, meet new people and get plenty of scripts and lores. I am enjoying the bard Kinna, which will keep me going until I someday in the far distant future, am able to finish the umbrite grind (NEVER again). My item level is 258 which suits me fine for now. I have no interest and find no fun in dying to ex primals and savage dungeons after waiting forever for a group that has no tolerance for teaching and falls apart after a wipe or 2. On the other hand, the POTD pf always pops in short order so that is where I spent my time to gather the tomes needed to gear up. The balance of time is spent gathering legendary ores, bot items, collectible fishies and selling on the MB mostly with occasional activities with my FC.
