I am a massive Nintendo fan, but I think the less focus on restrictive consoles, the better off this game will be.

This. Having played FFXIV with Remote Play on the PS Vita.. It's not a fun experience for anything other than crafting/gathering or just running through quests. There was too much lag and the controls are too small to do anything intense (yes, I tried running extremes and coil with it at the time to see)
If it operates similar to that (remote play is streaming HD video, hence the connection problems while on-the-go) then it's going to be equally worthless, before you even get to the controls. I'm not sure if that's what it does or if the system itself is actually what's portable. If so then the connection won't be too much of an issue compared to Vita, it will just come down to the controls and how well it runs the game.

It's not going to be a stream. The main OS is in the handheld unit, which gets docked to output its content to the TV.
