Errr, its not only that. I mean ofcourse you can also misclick on keyboard or controller. But there is more to it. For example the connection. We all know playing WLan can make hard times at some point. Or connection loss. I'm not sure if a handheld thing, would be perfect for an MMO which tries to even "revamp" its battlesystem, to make it even more action and we probably will get more skills with 4.0.

Ofcourse you can discuss that Nintendo Switch could bring also positive things, like increasing players who buy the game and sub for FFXIV. But in the other hand, Im not sure.. Most people are already playing on Ps4 or PC. Im not sure if any console from Nintendo is anywhere that populated like the PS is.

I am sorry for that rough explanation and all, but its my opinion and my answer to that 1. post.

I'm partly in favor and partly against it^^,
I think in the end speculation if ffxiv comes to the switch depends heavily on the hardware and as far as I understand it everyone here is still guessing about that. I mean nintendo is not known for awesome hardware in its consoles but the xbox one was released at the end of 2013 same for the PS4, why does it seem so unlikely that a console released three years or more later can actually beat these two in terms of hardware? I mean just look at the rate on which hardware improves i would be highly surprised if the switch gets beaten by PS4 Xbox one (as long as the switch is really not just a Handheld with an extra station for using the TV screen of course).

Overall it depends heavily on what the switch can do and how much player it will attract otherwise it will not be much different from playing on PS4.

I agree with some of your points, but the devs said they would overhaul the battlesystem to make it less complex and trimm some of the skills (the ones the deem useless whatever that means exactly). So in this regard it would actually not be in the way.

I'm obviously of two minds on this, as most people probably are.

    1) I don't want XIV to be weighed down by a console's specs. It remains to be seen whether this would be the case with the Switch in terms of XIV's development. Not only do we know little about the Switch, but we also know little about SE's plans for 4.x and 5.x.

    2) I'd LOVE for the game to be on the Switch if specs weren't an issue for the next couple of expansions. Great way to expand the playerbase further, plus I'd love to be able to play on the go (and my laptop kind of sucks).

Given how the Switch is still in a grey area as far as being able to handle XIV (and future patches/upgrades to come), I'd rather they did something else with the console. If we're exclusively focusing on XIV, perhaps a single player or general multiplayer (not MMO) game would be made. Obviously it can't exactly compete with XIV now, so it'd have to either be a 1.0 related game (think single player 1.0 with a revamped system) or a side story of events pertaining to Eorzea and the characters in it. Like a game centered around Raubahn, before he became the Flame General, or the other leaders. Just something to add more affection/lore to FFXIV.

I honestly think spinoffs or something could go a long way. It could even be 8/16-bit oriented, like some of those parody trailers. Heck, they could even consider seriously looking into that fighting game idea, though I'd actually prefer the 1.0 or side story idea lol.

BTW, opposing XIV on the Switch because of the upgraded PS4s and Xbones isn't a valid argument. Sony has already said games will not be developed exclusively for the upgraded systems, so any development for the PS4 will be optimized with the standard console in mind.

Therefore, if the client that's suitable for the PS4 can run at reduced settings on the Switch, then there's no grounds for resistance -- at least not on that point.

The PS3 and WiiU specs are similar, i'd say the WiiU is more powerful, yet it wasn't ported even that it had 2GB RAM vs the 256MB of the PS3, and it wasn't ported because it didn't sell enough.

How isn't it a valid argument? We're talking about Consoles, you really think the Switch will sell more than the Scorpio or Pro? Haha, good luck with that.

Even if FFXIV doesn't see many benefits on the Pro it's irrelevant, the point is that the upgraded consoles will sell many more units than the Switch, how's that an invalid argument?

I don't think you know how development works, it's not just convert the button images from the PS4 into the switch ones and there's a port, lol.

Different specs, different OS, therefor different language, but we know almost nothing about the Switch, so there's that.

I think you people are forgetting something important, it didn't even come out to the already available Xbox one, if it was as simple as you think it would be already available.

It's hard to gauge how well the Switch will do sales-wise as its a follow-up to BOTH the 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo obviously has high hopes, and they have all of their development at Treehouse being funneled into a single system along with their reliable third party teams, which means game series like Pokemon and Fire Emblem. As long as the pricing is reasonable and we have good launch titles, I really can't forsee it failing.

Also, I'm not sure why you assume FF never touches Nintendo. A multitude of remakes and spin-offs have dropped on their systems, it's just that SE prefers to put the most recent of the main series on the most powerful consoles, which is why the jump from Super Nintendo to Playstation occured in the first place.

But, since the release of FFXIII, the games have been cross-platform as Sony and Microsoft have been keeping and even ground, with Nintendo going off and doing their own thing.

With Nintendo stripping the gimmicks out and equalizing the power, it opens up the possibility of main series FF hitting the Switch.

This isn't actually the reason why. It's not that the port is too difficult (SE's Crystal Tools language they use for much of their development is pretty port friendly.) is that MS wouldn't agree to desegregate their Live players from current Sony and PC players. It's their method of internet play.

The internet may be what makes or breaks the idea of a port more than anything. Nintendo would need to be open to cross-platform play by allowing FFXIV to bypass their Miiverse network similarly to PSN's method.

Does anyone know if the Dragon Quest MMO is cross-platform?

IIRC, it's available on the Wii (before the shut-down, anyways), Wii U, Windows, and 3DS.

I'd think that, given the Wii and Wii U were online at the same time, Nintendo Network would allow for cross-play, but I'm not sure if the servers were cross-platform or if Wii U/3DS and everything else were technically segregated. I'd imagine the former, but since it's not out over here I can't say for certain.
