Personally i hope the msq stays mandatory just to spite you and your attitude problem.

It's sad that this has been upvoted so much. Is this really the FFXIV community, that only wants a certain "type" of person playing their game and everyone else can fart right off? A community that wants a restrictive and arbitrary and virtually unheard-of in the MMO world design decision to remain in place simply to SPITE someone else?
How petty. I'm starting to feel like you guys can keep your precious, pristine, unsullied "community".

I must admit, when I saw her comment I was like "What!?" - lemme tell you this now, if you need anything and you're on Odin, you're free to give me a shout. I'm happy to help. And while I might not agree with making the story optional, I respect the wishes of those that do want it.It's sad that this has been upvoted so much. White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

To be fair it was liked twice, i hardly call that "so much". That spite is for one person who refuses to believe they're wrong, if you actually read through the comments you will find i believe there should be a compromise, the story should not be completely optional but neither should it be full of pointless crap that both sides dislike. It's sad that this has been upvoted so much. This is an mmo yes but it's also a Final fantasy game and the story is what Final fantasy has always been about.

Which might have come from the fact that Final Fantasy "has always been" a single player RPG - and I honestly can't name many single player RPGs (or single player games in general) that don't use that type of story progression - Even Super Mario is driven by the perpetual kidnapped princess plot. The elder scrolls/Fallout I suppose? Those are built in a more modular way, with lots of smaller storylines, rather than one, big overarching thing. They are often hailed for their great world building in turn.
And in single player games, that's not an issue at all - you won't find many people complaining about the fact that you cannot fight the Mana beast in Secret of Mana right off the bat or challenge bowser right away. Nobody complains about the toxicity of the playerbase or bad pugs in such games either. In fact, few people complain if you physically have to enter each dungeon either and if an area becomes completely inaccessible (like a drowned continent), along with all its resources, crafting mats, sidequests and unopened chests (which may even contain best in slot equipment), that's just a plot point and nothing crippling - You'll just get it on your next playthrough, which requires starting from scratch. NPCs (and enemies) don't need to respawn in single player games either and erasing your character and game data (or making it unusable) after clearing the final boss and watching the credits isn't a big deal either. And finally, Final Fantasy titles have also nearly always given you a (cast of) stock characters, rather than one you could customize. No issue in single player games - everyone just plays as Derplander! (Or Lightning. Or Cloud. Or whatever character SE gives you)
Multiplayer games work differently - in many ways. Story restrictions just being the tip of the mountain.
