The only thing that gets me wondering and raises questions is just how flip-floppy he is in his statements. In this one he stated that the game needs to compete on a global scale. Which means retaining subs, bringing in new players and keeping players happy. In another statement he said he's totally okay with people playing for a month, dropping their sub and coming back on the next patch...if they come back. Soooo which is it? Does he want a stable game, or a revolving door game? He stated several times about people getting bored, which should be code for "Heyyy maybe its time to change things up a little" but he's not, its all more of the same. He said he's trying to appease everyone, which is pretty much impossible. You can't appease everyone and by trying you create something that has no real direction. I feel that he's only trying to appease the hardcore Final Fantasy fan's and those that play simply "because its Final Fantasy" in hopes they stay till the bitter end no matter what. Which makes sense given how much the game takes from other games in the series, and story aside does nothing really to contribute to the series.

*Hey its Gold Saucer!!! Remember that from FF7?*
*Hey its Triple Triad!! Remember that from FF8?"
"Hey its magitek armor!!! Remember that from FF6?*
*Hey its Crystal Tower!!! Remember that from FF3?*

and so on and so on, story elements aside for the life of me I can't think of one memorable thing that that makes me say *Hey its XYZ!!! Remember that from FFXIV?*

As for character growth there are ways to accomplish it in a pure vertical system, but it depends on what players want. Are they happy with the current system which risks boredom after the raids and dungeons are done as well as older content being rendered useless over time. Or do they want systems that have say evolving gear, ability to enchant gear to add +1 +2 +3 +4 and so on to the items bases. RNG and grind heavy yes but does ensure players stay busy and older content stays viable for longer then a one or two patch lifespan.

and for ur 2nd question : i log in then i look whos on and if anyone wants to do something , if not i look what my char still needs as in lvling remaining classes , or gearing up other classes , gathering / crafting :P (or sometimes pony farm , but i dont like raiding without friends :P it is more fun for me to do content with at least 1 person i know :P )
it really depends on my mood tho , sometimes im just tired from rl , so i do nothing sometimes , just relaxing XD

i just dont think like some people here on the forums : oh my ilvl is gona be obsolete why play at all? like i sayed above i play to relax and have fun in the game with friends being it raid or dungeon or just to hang out ^^ (i like the atmosphere and the music in the game , and the heroic feeling when doing stuff :P ) (my pld is ilvl239 atm) so yes i like to max stuff out to ^^ only thing that really bores me in the game is when no one is on that i know , and i have to do stuff alone :P

I wouldn't even go that far... I don't think my inventory can handle multiple gear sets, I have one for PvP already and it hardly fits... Put unique stats on gear, but copy Final Fantasy IX instead, let us unlock those stats after using the gear... They recently gave PvP presets for the AP you can put into PvP actions, so something similar could easily be possible for PvE... You'd get gear, obtain stats from it, set AP into some of them, then have presets you can switch between... Gear becomes somewhat more valuable, albeit temporarily, but we'd have room for horizontal progression with that, with none of the drawbacks of having to lug around multiple gear sets for single Jobs... I don't think we have the inventory space for that...

Arguably that creates a divide where new players are left behind and need to grind up more stuff, but Final Fantasy IX let you set stuff just from equipping the gear with it on, and AP was limited such that you only selected a few traits, rather than using all the ones you've unlocked... As such, a new player in Scriptures gear could have instant access to enough traits to spend all their AP on, all SE needs to do is balance it such that tomestone stuff is generic and fairly useful for everything, while other stuff is more specialist... Then it's just a matter of going out and grinding this kind of thing to get slight bonuses, which is something that already happens with this game anyway... Someone who goes out and just gets a full set of Scriptures gear is likely to have too much Accuracy, and they're also not using Food or stat Potions, which puts them at a slight disadvantage to anyone who has min/maxed stats and used the best consumables...

I'd really enjoy such a system... I'd likely go out of my way to obtain gear I otherwise wouldn't just for situationally good stats to unlock... 3.4 isn't even out yet, let alone 3.5, but I can tell you right now that I don't give a sh*t about the gear that'll drop in the next 24 man raid... I just don't... I don't even care about Scriptures gear if I'm honest, item level has just ceased appealing to me entirely... Something like this has potential to get me interested in gear again though, I could maybe get a drop from a dungeon and actually want it for a change... Right now that gear just exists for desynthesis or turning in for Seals, with something like this I'd want it for a stat to unlock...

Nothing but improvement can fix bad play. But gear can make worse people achieve the same results as better people can with worse gear. Need more examples? We are currently laughing at people who do 800 DPS now, but those were pretty good numbers pre-expansion and the old DPS checks are easily met. A person might now survive a mechanic that used to instantly kill because they have two to three times the HP, making it easier for healers to clean it up. In the absolute extreme case, an armor that makes you invulnerable and a weapon that allows you to instantly kill allow even a goldfish to clear the most difficult of fights.

Gear just doesn't get that powerful, so unfortunately goldfishes won't be able to do difficult content any time soon. In theory, though, there is little gear cannot compensate for.

honestly it's because you focus too much on "ohhh this come from ff..." but from memories, every FF did take stuff from the previous one.... even FF15 that are not out yet are already filled with content coming from the previous one. what is important is not the place, but the story that involve the place....
    - crystal tower and the allagan stuff?
    - gold saucer and.... goldly godbert!
    - triple triad was seen not only in FF8 (even FF11 had it ^^)
    - magitek armor and the garlemand that can't use magic are are forced to use technology?
yes they are coming from other game of the.....SERIES... but they are incorporate into the game. it's your loose if you can't read and discover a looot of stuff that FF14 did create and added to them game... like the spirit of gridania and such... you have memorable stuff... simply it ask to read and take time to understand how the world can create it own legacy.

ps: by the way a lot of stuff in HW was rarely used like this in FF series

This is still one of the best ideas I've seen on this forum, by a wide margin. It makes older gear relevant (and thus older content), it allows certain customisation and depth AND it doesn't invalidate the vertical progression this game is based on.

What is their reward ? If it's cosmetic, most peope won't care. If it's gear, it will automatically be weaker than Tome gear and raid gear. And in one month, you can grind enough tome (capped and uncapped) to faceroll everything except raid. Of course, you won't have BiS gear, but you won't care either.

The worst part on gear reward is that if you quit the game for 6 months and come back, then you'll obtain the new Tome gear at the same rate as those who played constantly while skipping the intermediate gear because it has become worthless.

The "good" thing about horizontal progression is that most gear will stay relevant throughout the expansion.
You dont like it? Then this game isnt for you.

Actually I'm sure they play for the community, not the game, as do I. I log in to see my friends and FC since they're always talking and conversing with eachother and share laughs each day when we log on. The forums is where it gets serious, because just ignoring how bad things are is disrespecting yourself knowing you paid for this more than just to have a better social experience I could find on Facebook. PvP and Hunts need work but those are what I do on my spare time as they're often pretty different experiences. I only speak for myself btw, I've yet to hear any different reasons why people play this game from what I already heard from every other FF fan.
