Too feminine? No.
Too feminine? No.
Eorzean Climber (Noborist)
Compared to other MMORPGs? No. Not really.
While some gearsets are looking better on females (robes) other armors are more supposed to be for males (tank gear, most pvp gear). In fact, males and females are not over the top (like having to many muscles or overly extreme bouncy/big boobs).
And btw: glamour is a matter of taste. Some people love to fight as a nearly naked male Elezen, while other people prefer female Au Ras covered in a heavy armor. Just saying.

- Queen of Heal 2022 -
But compared to WoW specifically?
If you look at it from the side or behind, it's... I just don't like it .-. (the BLM Esoteric set is far worse, though I think most players don't like how it looks)
I don't think it's too feminine at all. The only thing I sometimes question are their design choices.
Like how caster robes appear to look like bathrobes for instance. Looking at it from a practical perspective, it looks kind of clumsy. Besides, there's plenty of male glamour gear like the expeditioner's stuff and many of the items are even gender-neutral that don't look girly. Tank gear also tends to look quite masculine and a lot of DPS stuff is pretty gender-neutral as well.
--Not really about Final Fantasy, but with the video games as a whole, and the people who play them--
There is an interesting stigma among gamers when it comes to video games feminine/masculine content. But the argument is very one sided.
Like for this game, it being asked if Final Fantasy is ""too feminine" so there is a concern that it might alienate male players from even trying to the game.
And be that true or not true, I very much doubt anyone has ever said anything about say Gears Of War (or a similar type of game) being "too masculine" and suggest that it should be more feminine so as not to alienate female players from even trying the games.
As for the Final Fantasy genre, in a way they are feminine. But at the same time they are not. Every country and culture has their own ideas of what is feminine masculine. And in Final Fantasy the styles are based off of a lot Japans fashion styles.
So to us in the Western world, seeing this..

our first thought would be that it is feminine. But that's not how Japan sees it.
So the real question is not asking is FF games "too feminine" but rather if the games are "too Eastern" and should they attempt to Westernize the content more.
I say no. lol but that's me.

There is a huge lack of masculine glamours for male casters. There are too much dress-robes. I also miss the more traditional heavy plated armor for tanks. The lore tank gear was too much high-fantasy for my likes. They focus too much on Japanese fashion inspirations for the gear looks which I do not like very much. They should design more "western medieval" inspired gear for the tanks to cover all tastes. We said again that the problem is that they focus too much on unisex designs to cut costs/time for designing new gear.
While I agree the devs put too often robes and siily wizard hat for casters, I don't agree with the rest. The game is fine as it it and men are the ones who have issues with their own femininity (Anima) which has been repressed for 2 millennium since Christianity took over, and don't allow room for their emotions, trying to "fit" into an imaginary masculine concept while destroying their own personality and behavior. Anyone that deviates, the smart ones, the artistic ones, are called a sissy, gay, and mocked pretty much day 1 of their school days. Women are not the only one who suffered being nothing and having no class and no right for 2 millennium, men suffered as well harming a part of themselves.
Personally I prefer mangas over graphic novels, eastern videogames over western ones. One of the reasons is that I don't like big muscles and I find that gross, I prefer normal or athletic guys, buff is not athletic. I like to make pretty handsome male characters, pretty hard to do in Age of Conan MMO per example. Here in the other hand, or other eastern MMOs, I can.
This game looks a lot like an anime, which I like, and I don't it to turn into a western game in term of look.

It was probably asked in the previous 24 pages but how old is your nephew OP? There is an age period during which every boy think girls have cooties. And my 8 year old sister (who loves final fantasy by the way) thinks that kissing is the most disgusting thing ever.
It might sound harsh that their oppinion on such things doesn't matter, but it really freakin doesn't.
