If they are important enough to be considered required, then they should at least get some sort of mention in-game that leveling alternate classes is about more than just opening the job you want.
If you and many others apparently bothered to read the abilites/spell tool tips they say on the very bottom what classes and jobs can use them, clearly indicating that its a cross class system. Or opening up the abilities menu and seeing the additional area.....

Camon guys... The active help messages show how to use cross class skills and what they are. In order to get an advanced class (Warrior) or (darknight) you have to of seen those messages unless you intentionally skipped through them. You can't even get warrior without leveling gladiator to 15, and you obviously have the knowledge by the time you get to dark knight... Along the way there are messages and its visually seen on your skills tab.

Ignorance is no excuse, neither is skipping through visual information to help you along your way.

A WAR can't see provoke if they haven't unlocked it on GLA. An unaware player would have no idea the skill existed. A WAR would need to 1) switch to GLA 2) look at GLA skills that havent been unlocked 3) find provoke 4) identify it as cross class. Thats a lot of effort to go through when you don't even know the skill exists and you don't play GLA

...which is precisely how she found it.

Actually, we get tutorial info for the vast majority of freshly unlocked content with a nice, little prompt on screen. Having one said prompt dedicated to cross-class skills with the important ones, like provoke, specifically mentioned would ease the issue.

Slap it on screen when we unlock our second class and boom, in-game info that can be read right there and researched later.

Yes but you can still see what classes and jobs can use what skills from there own set. So common knowledge(I know thats VERY hard around this community) when you try out another class you look at the skills.

You are saying this with the hindsight of knowing that provoke is important. As a completely new player playing MRD you wouldn't even think that one of your most important skills comes from GLA unless you are told, which the game does not. It's all well and good saying the information is there, but it is only there if you know what you are looking for, if somebody tells you, or if you stumble across it accidentally.

Even if I had the POV of a new player at the point that I started leveling another class I would go over what skills I would need and think to myself oh this looks important maybe I should take it. Its not that hard. Trial and error and at least they are leveling other classes and trying to learn new cross class abilities, that right there is better than people who don't put any effort in trying.

Again, you are assuming that a new player even understands or has had any experience with the cross class system. The game isn't very clear how it works, and it's only through other players (which some players don't talk to often) that you learn which abilities are useful to your class (I had no idea that swiftcast was important to WHM until a long time after it was 50, the reason being that I didn't play BLM, in fact I didn't even know that swiftcast was an ability that could be used for WHM)

Because (aside from 3 or 4 skills) the cross class system is not all that important to be efficient in your role lol

I would hope they learn that lesson while equipping bloodbath and foresight while leveling on their gladiator in order to become a warrior but I guess for the players you are talking about they are going to need to actually use the mentor system cause they are going to be clueless about anything under these circumstances unless the skill is flat out given to them.

Yeah, who doesn't cross-class Savage Blade, Skull Sunder and Fracture? Feint, Haymaker and Keen Flurry also seem mighty essential. And we all know the only reason BLMs level archer is for Straight Shot and Venomous bite.

Honestly? I think it's very easy to consider cross-class skills unimportant when I look at several of the first ones you get.
