Y'all can be mad all you want. I love Yokai Watch, and I can see it fitting in to my RP and in to the lore. I mean honestly, you're throwing a fit over this but the lightning event was OK?

...and I hope the next campaign will be something you like so you can see that things like this have the potential to add something new to a game that we all should be playing to have fun with it - and not to build walls around it and stop it from evolving. Its also kinda sad to see how little trust you seem to have in the devs - also: Disney characters... did someone said Kingdom Hearts?!To the people defending it, I hope the next completely unrelated to FF marketing cash grab campaign by SE is something you dont like, then maybe you'll understand why people don't want elements from outside FF creeping into the game. This isnt a cheap marketing campaign either, they're not telling you to go and buy(?) Yo Kai watch stuff in order to get those items - like they did with a certain magazine and some gear, people want(ed) *cough*
There are a lot of things in this game I dont wanna see, some of them being really immersion-breaking (Mi'qos running around in a bikini in Coerthas?) - and some are in the game because "fun" seems to come first.
You dont even know yet if this is going to break your immersion - aka how they'll explain and implement it. Would you complain aswell if they just added 13 pets, weapons and a mount with completly new designs too?
Don't like Youkai Watch (tbh never even heard of it, just seen it now and then in Gamestop and it looked like a Pokemon ripoff to me tbh), and the weapons and minions both are glaringly cartoonish in a world that looks more realistic (to a degree). However, despite my distaste for it, I may still play around with it a bit just because I enjoy participating in events in this game, they give me something to look forward to along with my usual playtime. And a few of the minions have caught my eye at least, based on their designs... not like we don't already have some cartoon-y looking minions anyway.
Tbh I think my entire dislike of the items is just how badly they clash with the surrounding world. If they were made to look more in line with FFXIV's aesthetic design, think they'd be less jarring for me. But my only issue with them is aesthetics, and that's never stopped me from liking stuff regardless >>

Yes it is an Anime. Just because you feel it's too childish (and by the way, that is more than likely the translation ... just like Pokemon) doesn't mean it wouldn't be called by it's proper genre.
And on that note, just like Pokemon, it was a video game first and foremost. Just because they turned it into an Anime, doesn't meant that's the primary focus.
In Japan, the game is hugely popular. To the extent that it is gaining on Pokemon's popularity. Putting it in FFXIV will also increase it's foothold in the west.
You keep citing that this game is FF fan service only, yet we have Dragon Quest items, and a mount that is based off of Gamera.

It actually is quite different from Pokemon and worth a look. I enjoy it, personally. Not saying you will, but it is still worth a look. The second and third are supposed to be even better from the reviews I've heard from Japan.
Yo-Kai Watch isn't really my thing. Tried the demo, it was kinda weird. But that's okay!
Is it a thematic clash with the rest of the game? A little. But so are things like flying fat chocobos, the ability to ride raid bosses, every little bit of the slapstick comedy exploited by Hildibrand, and so much more. The integrity and the immersion of this game got destroyed a long time ago.
I guess what I'm trying to say is...

If you really want to keep the game full immersive, it gets boring within 1 year.

All of them have been games. I doubt they would do something that wasn't a game of some sort especially not food. So far I can remember Dragon Quest (game), Yo'kai Watch (game), and PSO2 (game, XIV didn't get anything from this collab though). To the people defending it, I hope the next completely unrelated to FF marketing cash grab campaign by SE is something you dont like, then maybe you'll understand why people don't want elements from outside FF creeping into the game. How about Disney characters wandering around, or a quest with an NPC who insist you drink a mountain dew to quench your thirst? How about a big billboard in limsa with 'Drink Coke' emblazoned on it? What is your limit of irrelevant marketing bullshit?
Disney characters might happen (Kingdom Hearts, which btw also has FF characters in it)
So many people in this topic are so mad about getting content. No one really cares if you're gonna sulk and afk in Idylshire while other people have fun with something new to both the game, and to some of the players who have never seen Yokai Watch. Quite frankly, come Tuesday no one will really care what you think I'm sorry to say.
I'll admit, the Whisper mount is a bit ridiculous but so is the giant dandelion puff ball you can get. As for the minions, I think the majority don't look bad and you could think of them as children's toys in Eorzea. The weapons, I think only two of them are meh. Sure, it's a little out of context but we can make it work if we just use our imagination and have fun. Mostly.....just have fun.
