I don't see how this is breaking immersion any more than chasing a gigantic, rolling egg throughout Gridania.

Even if Youkai Watch isn't part of the FF Universe yet, it will be soon.
I'm sure they will find a way through quests and dialogue to add these characters and items into the Final Fantasy world and lore.
I very much doubt they will simply appear out of thin air with no explanation.
If someone is interested in lore, I think they should read the dialogue of the quests to understand why these weapons and minions appeared in the game.
When the Valentine's Day event was held, I don't think people complained the Valentine's Day (named Valentione's Day or something like that) wasn't part of the FF Universive. But it became a part of it.
The same is true for many seasonable events. Take the New Year's event and Easter event as another example.
Keep in mind that Japanese do not celebrate Easter, and really know nothing about it, yet there was an Easter Event with eggs and stuff.
Youkai watch is very popular in Japan. Many people are very excited about it.
Events are not meant to be faithful is game's lore. They are just events. Something to break the monotony of the game. In all MMORPGs Events are usually like that. Here at least they are trying to fit them in the game with little Quests and cutscenes.
You are aware that there is NO lore/logic connection that would link FFXIV with previous Final Fantasy games? They had to explain the collaborations with FFXI and FFXIII with "Oh, some spell transported me into this world that I dont know at all!" because all FF-worlds exist seperatly from each other. So they're absolute free to add new stuff to each game if they want - and if thats "inspired" by something else, so what?
You're pretty narrow minded and childish - games, and especially Final Fantasy arent one, definitive concept that stays the same way for all enternity. Or else we would still have only 6 classes and jobs (DRK?! MCN?! TOTALLY lore-breaking! Any TRUE fan would know they werent in the original FF!!!!)
Beside: this might be fan service thats not directed towards you - cool, bikinis arent directed towards me, so what? - but please keep in mind that those companies have to earn money in order to develop new games. And if they do that by throwing us a bone, even giving us an enourmos amount of content (13 pets, weapons and one (or two?) mounts!) and not hurting us at all - because no, your "immersion" isnt hurting because they added something new to a game - then please, go for it
...and now please tell me, OP, that you're 14 and that you have plans to grow up...
So you only care because there's physical items tied to the event? Because there's a ton of allusions to other, non Final Fantasy games in FFXIV. Too many to count, in fact.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/F..._XIV/Allusions
Some of them do have actual items too. Why aren't you upset that the Valerian Gear is from Tactics Ogre? Or that the DRK AF set is inspired from Berserk? Just because there's no event to go with it?
I understand people saying "Don't take part" and "Its not a big deal" but it really is a big deal. How long until we start seeing more crap like this? The ONLY reason that this is in the game is because Yoshi is good buds with Akihiro Hina (CEO and President of Youkai Watch).
Where have you been? They already made a flying tortoise and have plans to make tank mounts (read: this includes a bear) flying. They've stopped caring for immersion and a FF-esq setting a while back now.
As I've said before, there's a line between what people feel is acceptable or not. Something like Valerian gear can exist within a setting like this. Having non-allagan futuristic blasters or an Irish dwarf does not. Likewise with the ability to glamour gear, I wouldn't mind so much people glamouring bikinis ion the sense the bikinis can reasonably exist in the game setting. Not so much when you can glamour into a storm trooper or futuristic armor that clearly doesn't look allagan. My threshold was already pressed with the flying tortoise in consideration that there are already tortoises in the open world that possess no ability to even breathe fire.

Why are some of you trying to invalidate the OP's opinion? You call him a troll yet can't post anything but meme's and a sarcastic comment for likes.
'It's not your game' oh really? By that logic, nobody should complain about anything in FFXIV because 'it's not our game'. If you don't agree with him then simply say you don't agree instead of being rude and acting like his opinion means nothing just because you don't like it. I'm tired of seeing people try to undermine people's opinions on the Forums.
This isn't aimed at everyone. If you have a valid argument that's completely different.
You should actually read the thread. People have posted a vast amount of replies explaining such things. People have explained the reality of an ever evolving lore and how this event and the items contained can be added to it through how the dialogue and quests are written, explained that we have had past events which also are not FF related, given a lot of cases where 'immersion' isn't something the OP can hide behind unless has been walking around with their eyes shut 24/7 since started playing even when take into account how subjective it can be. The fact the OP implied if do not agree with him/her about this then your not a true FF fan is icing on the already baked cake as far as the OP's opinion on the subject is concerned.

I mean, personally I think it's stupid, but eh.
I also don't really understand the decision... as I really don't think Yokai Watch is remotely popular with the majority of players. YW is a (young) children's anime and game. It really doesn't have that many fans over elementary school age (and I say this as someone who lives and works in Japan). Even among adult anime fans, YW is not popular. So... in that sense I don't get it.
And I do understand OP's feelings about it being immersion breaking. Sure, you can claim the other "silly" stuff in the game does the same thing, but it really doesn't. An established, famous brand suddenly appearing is not the same as seeing someone dressed in a random silly outfit. I mean, wouldn't you feel it was immersion breaking if McDonalds themed stuff was put in the game?
If you don't have a problem with it that's fine, but I don't think OP's feelings are unreasonable.
