My beef with FATEs is my same beef I have with Diadem, Guildhests, Levequests, dungeons, and so on... Wasted potential...
I'm not burned out on them, because I never really did them that much to begin with, because they're not remotely interesting. My issue is purely based on the opinion that they could be so much more interesting than they currently are... It also highlights a fairly irksome approach the developers have taken with content; They rarely improve old content... This is much more noticeable with PvP, where any new addition kills the last (I miss Secure...), but just look at Diadem... It's been left for dead, and instead of improving it, they've got a new Exploratory Mission lined up that'll hopefully be better... Diadem is essentially just wasted resources then, same as Secure, Slaughter and Seize... Old dungeons at least get kept somewhat relevant, though I'm certainly not happy with how streamlined (or XIII inspired) new dungeons have become... I'd prefer they improve those old pieces of content and keep them relevant, the same way I'd prefer them to improve FATEs and make them more interesting... Instead they're going for quantity over quality, and what little quality there was seems to be slipping away... Can't recall any Highbridge style FATEs in Heavensward...
I suppose I might also be upset that they seemingly replaced Hamlet Defense with FATEs... Hamlet Defense wasn't perfect, but I'd put that down to being stuck in 1.0... One expected them to improve upon it for 2.0, and perhaps give us something closer to/better than XIs Besieged or Campaign... Instead we get FATEs... Oh well, 3.4 is giving us Lily Hills as a zone, and one hopes that's a new Hamlet to defend, and not something related to the new housing system... At the very least they've been trying new things recently, hopefully they improve Palace of the Dead with new mechanics, rather than just another 50 floors of the same...
