Because its a low effort solution with tools in place?

Why? It's obvious why. FATEs are battle content that are already in the game and ready to go while being accessible to all players without any extra effort needed from the devs outside of adding some extra rewards (atma, youkai medals, etc.).
This guy gets it.

TBH I never grinded FATES added in Heavensward except to level alts after main story was done, and even then like always i usually just use my dailies to get that done. Im not sure if it was cause of being around when ninka was released and grinding it up to level without the use of anything else(yeah you could forget dungeons) but theyre only really good for suplementing. They seem to work best to me asf youre levelling process and going from one place to another and here heres a free 1/20th of a level, during going through the games story line. I think theyre fine especially the 3 part ones, my favorite one to this day is the highbridge one in eastern thanalan dunno why
That would be awesome if SE added that to 4.0, that guy you failed to escort? Now he's dead for a week and no one can buy relic materials trolololol
Failed to save the village from an attack? Now they've taken over and no one can use the aetheryte trolololol
I have no problem with fates, maybe speed up the rotation a bit on some but other than that fates as a gameplay element is fine.
Someone mentioned taking control of an area, we already have such a fate NE of Quarrymill in South Shroud (attack and defense fates) but there is no reason to go there outside of clearing the fate which I think is ideal. Personally I do not want fates to have a long term impact on areas because the areas wont always have enough people to help the player take it back when everyone else is busy doing their own thing instead.
There are quite a few fates already which require a larger group than normal to clear and people tend to avoid doing them because not enough people are around or a lot of people will simply not care about it. If any fate had a long term effect on an area that area would need to be like the one mentioned about in South Shroud in which is not a hub and is no reason to go there for anything other than clearing the fate else your creating an unnecessary exclusion for those who need to go there but potentially not enough people online at the location/helping.
I am happy to keep fates as self contained mini events like they are right now though I am okay with making them more complex, more varied objectives or adding more phases and such but they must remain self contained in my opinion...and what I mean by self contained means kept away from hubs or places which other people need to go for a variety of reasons beyond the fate itself.

Kind of like FFXI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan's Besieged? That would be interesting.

This would be nice.
Similar to the Atomos event during 1.23. Except it was still able to use the aetherite teleport, the people just died after the teleport because of the high level monsters in the camp.

Because if they didn't use what they already had, people would complain that they're putting too much effort into content unrelated to the main game.

Personally, I don't mind FATEs.
As for them using FATEs, it's content that everyone can participate in. Or virtually everyone can.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
