Except it would affect you, me, and everyone else. Think DF is bad now with the bads? Say hello to people who don't know what Cure is.
And I've been pretty much going around the forum echoing this. While everyone's focused on exclusive items, housing, glamours, etc. This game is dying in actual content, losing its subscribers because of lacking world. Lacking immersion. Lacking meaningful content. Interesting ideas, but they won't last for more than a week. The content we get is literally something we do for like a week and then are like "K. That's boring. Now what?" Palace of the Dead is literally going to be a Glamour reward(will probably be sellable and thus killing off a playerbase of actually running the thing in the first place). Meanwhile we get maybe another dungeon or two, more tome caps, more gear to be bought with tomes, etc. The endless hamster wheel we've been on since 2.0.And its also a serious problem here. There is a lack of content to do at level cap besides things connected to raiding. What helps pad the game out is the need to level certain classes up for specific cross-class skills needed for raiding.
Should we really replicate a problem that makes another problem even worse?
I'm literally tired of some people just being so freaking lazy when it comes to MMOs. Actually work for your reward. Learn. Evolve. You will find more enjoyment if things actually are earned(Also if they actually last for more than just one patch...COUGHRELICCOUGH). There's plenty of issues, but here we are.
But on topic, this level skipping junk is stupid. The game is EASY to level up in. It doesn't even take that long. People are mentioning it takes time to play with your friends and raid with them...have you friends help you out from the get go. Let them help you experience a world that is supposed to be beautiful. Freaking interact with each other. Cause god forbid we have a community that actually wants to interact with each other. No. Why do that when we can just do everything from within our rooms.

I don't think its a good idea. If anything they could take some of the later more "filler" quests and split them into separate quests not part of the story (this happened a lot in 2.X). They could also make the next new "city" accessible before the the story is reached there so people could still grab the new classes and whatnot, I think that would alleviate a lot of it.
All they need to do is make the next expansion accessable at lvl 60 regardless if you finished the last 2 stories or not. Don't need to make the story a direct connection of the other two. Then if ppl want, they can finish the ARR and Dragonsong stories if they choose. Or move on to the next expansion. None of this level skipping bullcrap, thats literally just official Real Money Trading. And not the type of game I want to play.
I'm all for making it easier for new players to get into the game, like many of the options others have propsed in this and other threads already.
- Letting people unlock new jobs and non-combat content without story requirements.
- Taking out some unnecessary padding from the MSQ that made sense at the time of release but only draws it out longer nowadays.
- Adding more/greater exp boosts for below 50 (and 60 once 4.0 hits).
- Not making the entry to the next expansion story-locked.
But jumping potions? NO.
Not only do they hurt the existing playerbase (by throwing a bunch of completely inexpierenced players into endgame, make it impossible to have any decent talk about the story and trivializing any effort they ever put in completely in the process), but it's actually worse for the new players.
Yes, if you ask them, they all strive to quickly make it to endgame. They do not realize that in this game, the saying "The journey is the reward." is very, very LITERAL here. Leveling up is where most of the content is. What is the point in skipping it all to get to the final 2 dungeons quicker so they can run these everyday for tomes?
I understand that kind of move in a game like WoW, which is rather simplistic and easy to grasp AND had been out for 10+ years at the time of the introduction of such an option with a level cap which is not that far from twice FFXIV's current cap.
Why SE would even THINK about adding that kind of thing with 4.0 is certainly beyond me.
You'd think they are smart enough to realize that new players have close to nothing to do once they hit the new cap and will simply leave right away. Even people who were really invested in this game left during the 3.0-3.1 content drought. How long is it going to take for someone who only put in a few dollars to shrug and say "meh, not worth my time"?
I have made so many fond memories bringing greanleafs through new content, watching and listening to their joy as they finally hit 15 and can do dungeons, laughing with them as one boop from Forneus brings them to zero, helping them through new content just for the experience of watching them go through a dungeon for the first time. I will volunteer to run through old content I feel done with if a fresh face is there. I feel like adding a jump potion would take a lot of that away. On a server like Balmung, new players are few and far between and it's a breath of fresh air when you get to mentor them. I don't want to lose that, and I want everyone to experience the full game.
Please do not implement level jumps before attempting other solutions. Improve older content by condensing the MSQ and removing non-essential quests. Do not lock things like regions and jobs behind MSQ unless it’s extremely important to. Expand on existing features like Hall Of Novice and Mentor system to help players catch up quickly while learning the game.
The reason why I’m so adamant about this is that I feel like it will cross a line in how this game is designed. FFXIV has a polished battle system that can provide a rewarding and fun experience. But I feel it’s completely wasted for a large portion of it’s content. I think a fair amount of us were pleasantly surprised at the challenge of Weeping City, and I also think it’s a great example of how the game as a whole fails to teach it’s playerbase to be effective in challenging content. Too much convenience within progression can and will affect battle content.
I love this game, and don't want to give it up like other MMOs.
I sympathize. On one hand I understand that they need to keep a steady flow of players coming in, as there is always a steady amount checking out. There is also returning players with new accounts, and those who choose to level multiple characters. Their numbers probably show there are more people re-experiencing the game's content than those going through it the first time. On the other hand, I know first hand how experiences can be outright ruined by jerk players, and the gut dropping feeling when a new patch reduces the work you put in for someone else by a very high margin.
However, I also know, and so do they, that there are players who choose to grind things out and pace themselves. They really put effort into learning their jobs and roles, and the game in general. All I can suggest is that if you come across said player, you put forth all your effort to get them in your FC![]()
While im sure the newbies will not be dropped off at raid tier, in order to sate the raid crowd's egos, the rest of the mortals are going to be very annoyed at putting up with people that paid their way up.
The thing is that Yoshi is concidering this BECAUSE people are complaining there are alot of class quests!!!
People!! Understand that what we veterans went through was already alot, too many patches to keep the story fresh and interesting, why would you want to skip everything that we already went through? Do you even care for the wonderfull story that they gave us in ARR and Heavensward? Do you even care about the hardwork of everyone at SE that created this wonderfull game?
Stop asking for less MSQ and faster leveling and Yoshi won't even think about Potions of leveling or whatever its called!! We dont want to turn this into WoW. Newbies need to come with the mindset that they need to learn the game, not just "Get in and win". Every class needs to be learned, every job, the story needs to be taken in to have effect, so instead of trying to get SE to skip class quests, get people to enjoy the game!
