I keep seeing this argument coming up recently. "It's too much work for the developers."
I feel like that's a really horrible argument. This should be about what we want, not about how hard it is for the developers to implement or how little funds they have to work with (which they should really change btw).

And let me pull this up

I think with this kind of viewpoint, we can discard any of your 'insights' of SE's Development budget anyway.

And let me point to my Version of Red Mage Tank again.

Some people were saying that Red Mage tank can not have casting times, spells would have to be instant and that would feel like PLD's or DRK's poor excuses for magic spells.
In my version, they are actual magic spells.
Red Mage often has a theme of "Fast Cast".
Other popular traits are Dualcast and Chainspell.

This version of Red Mage tank would be all about that theme.

Furthermore it would utilize all aspects of Red Mage, Melee, Black Magic, White Magic.
None to an excessive extent, but if you combine all of them, you have a force to behold.
And the Shield would fit perfectly with Red Mage too.

To make spells viable though, you'd get 1 or 2 Swiftcast buffs from one of your weaponskill combos, allowing you to instant-cast your spells as off GCDs, meaning no casttime, no cooldown, and you can use them between your GCD combos.

The Magic feel kicks in when you're desperate for a Refresh, so desperate, you sacrifice your DPS by using a GCD to cast Refresh as an actual spell without the Swiftcast buff and breaking your combo to do so.
It would be an interesting trade-off that you have to make based on your judgement and the situation you're in.

This kind of tank could also hold hate with the melee combos, even if the enemy has magic immunity.
In that case you can change your gameplay and play more like a support, using Haste, Refresh or other spells on your party members and keeping yourself alive.

I've been tanking for so long and i love samurai, but this Red Mage concept sounds really interesting and fun to me.
I've also been thinking about how Samurai could be a tank, but i don't see it being anything else but WAR 2.0, maybe someone can enlighten me with a cool Samurai tank concept.
