I pull groups as they are chained. But I try to pull as little as I can. The game fortunately shows you which mobs are linked.
I also put numbers on them. Most of the time 3 or 4 dies before 1.
And DPS needs to wait until I did a Flash. Often enough, I get heals before all mobs are with me and I can do a flash and then the healer gains aggro and I lose aggro on mob 1 to dps because I try to get the rest.
This what I get when I ask them to adhere to the numbers:
edit: We really need cross server ignores.
If dps pull for me, I stand by the solution of "let them die." However, after they die I say in party chat "I'm sorry, you pulled the mobs, I thought you wanted to tank them. Next time wait for me to pull." That is how you properly teach them a lesson.
Same lesson applies to this, let the dps die and when they do say "next time give me a few seconds to get aggro before you go nuts."
Don't let anyone else dictate to you how "efficiently" you need to play. If you're not comfortable with fast paced, large-pull runs then don't stress over going out of your way to protect or please those who deliberately choose to slap you in your face and tell you your standard of tanking isn't good enough for them.
As a Tank and DPS, I favour large pulls, but I would never hold it against any Tank who didn't feel comfortable with that and I'd expect it to be the most basic of common courtesy for ANYONE to behave the same way. If anyone tries to give you lip for not being a "good tank" then kindly point out that, if you are a bad tank, then they are a worse DPS for deliberately disrupting your personal method and being incapable of learning how to adapt.
Couple things, Bob.
1. Once you get enough gear (I recommend you start by purchasing the item level 115 tank set off the market board when you hit 50) you're not going to mark very often. It's just something that people don't need to do outside of raids. Your threat rockets with gear progression, so don't worry if people hit 2 instead of 1 while you're tanking, because very soon, it won't matter anymore.
2. Don't hesitate to quit a group that's pissing you off. You pay a sub fee just like everyone else; just because you happen to play a clutch role for group content doesn't mean you're required to put up with someone's edge lord crap just because they had to wait longer in queue. You have no onus towards anyone to be their whipping boy. Hell, I quit groups just because someone won't stop spacebar jumping. F*** THEM, IT'S ANNOYING.
Just my two cents.

If I'm playing on a DPS class, I'll give the real tank advice on how to hold threat, but I won't go out of my way to accommodate his threat generation. It's legitimately faster and more heal-efficient for a DPS who is experienced in threat control to tank the run, than to dump DPS all over the floor and wipe the group because you wanted the tank to keep threat. This applies more strongly to the lower (<50) dungeons, where tanks struggle the most against competent/high-geared DPS, but it still applies to higher (50-60) dungeons.
Also, OP, marks will be ignored if you're not marking high priority targets in a pull. Mobs like toads, succubi, and biasts are high kill priority, and any DPS will target those first because they make life miserable the longer they're allowed to live.
Something positive for you to think about as I see you're level 49, at level 50 you get Circle of Scorn, it's great at the start of pulls because it's AoE and off the GCD. It will help a ton with that annoying pause before Flash is available at the start of pulls. I also use it on bosses as there is nothing I hate more than a trigger happy DPS ruining my positioning of a boss mob. Lob - SoC - Flash in the first 2.5 seconds of the fight will give you plenty of time to sort everything out 99.9% of the time.Sorry, but I need to vent. I am having a problem with my groups.
Every other group is playing like the world is going to end in 2 minutes. I pull a pack, lob my shield in there and immediately the whole shebang goes off. Heals, damage, the whole thing. Of course 2 mobs are running straight to the healer, my marked target to attack switches to the dps, while I try to save the healer. Pleas to wait for a Flash go unheard. I am not sure how to deal with that. If I say something, you only get comments like "L2P" or even worse.
People don't seem to realize that you have a 2.5 second GCD that you cannot circumvent as a Tank.
Even with strong DPS that usually buys me more than enough time to position, pop CD's and use Spirits Within on my first mob (while HP is high) before I even start my hate combo rotation. If in doubt though just Flash twice instead of once and you should be good.
Don't expect DPS to wait for you though because they wont for the most part, CoS will be a great tool to help solve the problem.
As far as I know that is the highest iLevel in the vanilla game. So I am not gonna do that. Because then there is nothing left to do... I don't have the addon and I don't want to be decked out in like 10 minutes.
