We've finally gotten the translations for patch 1.19 sufficiently finished that we can start worrying about your opinions in the forum again.

In German we decided to go with Cohort, because on one hand we wanted to make a counterpoint to the "Undying Legion"
(German name for the Immortal Flames) in the nomenclature, but also because we considered the size of a legion as somewhat over the top.

Lastly, one also has to examine the cutscenes very cunningly, in which there are at most
ten Garlean soliders including commanders on the screen at any given time. As long as one is never presented with the enemy's full force, then neither the Eorzeans or even us translators will not know how large the force serving the Praetor (= Legatus)) or even the the entire Garlean Empire actually is.

With the commanders, we also went with the title of "Praetor", because it also reflects the political aspect of the position that both honorable men fill.
(in a fearful type of way)
With their personal titles, we've also allowed ourselves a little artistic license, so for example where the Americans know the "White Raven" as Nael van Darnus, with us he is the "Silver Wing".

With the different languages it will always come to small discrepancies and we would like to ask you to please accept this - in confidence that in the nomenclature we work with the best knowledge and conscience.

    PS
In the Japanese version they actually refer quite simply to a
commander of a military unit. Analogies to the known Roman Empire were only first worked in in the translated versions.

And that my friends was a very interesting read.

You are doin a great job here!

But the bold one is wrong.

"Die Legion der Unsterblichen" is the German Name of Uldahs Grand Company.
So it does get translated into "The Immortal Flames" and not "Undying Legion".

    Just to let u know^^

    Keep up the good work!

    *facepalm at self* Thank you.

Although it does point out their attempt to go with something more aligned within their language. Thus, they remove the flame reference and insert a legion descriptor. Plus Undying = Immortal in a thesaurus. I'll edit in a note about this.

EDIT: Done and it makes a lot more sense now. Don't ask me why I didn't pick up on it the first time. >_>
