And my job as a bard is only to DPS, I didn't roll a dps class to sing songs and do party buffs....wait you're saying that people should use all the skills available to them to help the group when applicable? What a shocking idea.

Am I a butterfly dreaming I'm a man... Or a bowling ball dreaming I'm a plate of sashimi?

You know what valiid point!
But when is the last time you really had to cast mage ballad besides 8man raids or trials?
NEVER!

This morning I use paeon in between pulls. If dps are aoe'ing down a pack they can run out their tp pretty quickly. Besides that I use requiem/paeon/ballad depending on the situation a decent bit.

Seriously, what's with all the straw-man arguments? I honestly can't tell if you're being serious in half your posts, or just purposely inciting an argument for your own personal amusement. You must have figured out the argument by now? If not, let me break it down in simple terms.
If you just heal in a party, and find yourself with plenty of breathing space, you're not a 'good' healer. You're an average healer. A good healer is one who goes above and beyond the norm, and that means adding your own flair to the fight, whether that's supporting in some way, or DPSing. It doesn't matter if you're a Scholar, a White Mage or an Astrologian, if you're just a healer, you're not playing to your full potential.
Your argument about whether or not it's needed in a 4-man group is meaningless. The fact is, a 4-man group is going to be a lot more casual and easier content, so you're going to have more opportunities to DPS. An 8-man group may actually rely on that DPS some day, but if you can't even manage it in a 4-man, how will you manage when the healing responsibilities double?
This argument has been done to death, and you're throwing paper-thin arguments around like confetti. If you can't do it well, then just say so and be honest. If you can, then you should. There's no defense for being lazy.
