sadly Japan has fallen in love with CoD and Halo over here... so there goes that idea... At least some Japanese dev's are getting it right... such as From Software and the Soul's games! Still trying to beat the Taurus Demon in Dark Souls!

I totally agree with the rest of OP except for one thing: point 6 about endgame..
1. Leveling (Yes, alot of people complained about the grind in ffxi, but personally I loved it. If I wanted to level my character to the cap by questing I would go play literally any other mmo on the market. As I feel FFXIV is actually headed in the right direction in this category, I have heard some things I did not like, such as yoshi saying it would become more easy to level. One of the best things about ffxi to me was lvling my character. Parties were fun! I loved good grinding parties. That was a experience in itself leveling my character to 75. In this game it is flat out boring. I used to HATE regional leves as I felt is was a boring, repetative, and a un-enjoyable experience to level your character. That being said after the adjustments you guys have made, I think there is a place in the game for them as long as they arent the main focus when leveling your character. As much as I hate solo content some is needed and I dont think this is a bad route to take. I love the fact that recently people have started partying. Although I am a little tired of killing raptors and going to the same camps over and over, I still feel shades of FFXI while grinding. I really wish though it wasnt so much roaming like merit parties were in 11. I loved merit parties but if parties are going to be roaming parties then the mobs need to be closer together with a higher respawn rate. THE MAIN FOCUS OF LEVELING YOUR CHARACTER SHOULD BE GROUPING.. ANYTHING IS UNACCEPTABLE AND WILL LEAD TO THE DEATH OF THIS GAME.
I agree with that point except you need to keep in mind that we are only R50 (witch means 'bout what..? lv 30 in FFXI?) So maybe it's not the time for Endgame/HNM...
But I really hope this time will come
To the Original Poster. While I value your opinion and I agree with some issues to your post, you telling people to go away if they talk about aspects from other mmos kind of makes you a hypocrite. I mean FF11 HD is what you want... We can all tell. If you like it so much, why not go back?
They are here to make the most money possible. These changes that are happening is by the players if you have not noticed. We tell them what we want and they design it. That's what those polls were for. Then from there it's trial and error on what they come up with. Do I believe this game is currently easy in terms of content, absolutely. However, that doesn't mean it's easy for others. Some players still can't kill the big three NM's, Ogre, and Batraal. We are not even capped level yet I dont know what you're expecting. Once ps3 comes they might raise the level cap with much more difficult content but we'll just have to wait and see.
I will tell you this though that I too played 11 for 7 years and it was the best years of gaming as well as the worst years of my real life. Of course I was a lot younger back then, but those 21-24 hour NM's ruined it for me after doing them day in day out. That to me is not an accomplishment IMO. That was all bs luck or whoever had the best claim bot at the time. Ugh, thinking about it irritates me lol. Now, doing COP promys for the first time.... WOW.. That was the most fun and challenge I've had in an mmo up to that point. I felt so accomplished when I finished it. But after that, it was back to the same BS again... Grind, 21-24 NM's. Point is, I don't want this to be like 11 at all. If I did I would go back and play that. I want this to be 14! If they want to add aspects of 11 to it then I'm cool with that but the minute they add 21-24 hour NM's I'm done again unless they have alternative ways of getting the same gear from it.
Doing this from my iPad so I probably misspelled a lot from auto correct but I like the direction this game is going in and I'm not asking anyone to agree with me. This is just my 2 cents.
P.S. Except for certain aspects of the materia system but that's another story
P.S.S. Roaming NM's are great like the dragons in 11.

http://knowyourmeme.com/i/000/087/42...gif?1292043825Those time wasting mechanics did make the aquisition of items rather hard. If you couldn't/wouldn't invest the time to get a item you didn't get it. If you couldn't get it yourself you bought it, because the game could support itself like that.
I'm not sure what people think "Hard" is, "Hard" is not just something that requires a specific skillset/rank to acomplish. If you reason that a time investment is not adding difficulty addine a learning curve itself is not difficult either. Learning is nothing more than investing your time and being able to apply the knowledge gained in said timeframe.
You have to spend time to learn your class, skills, party, zones, monsters. It's not so absurd to think you might need to also spend time actually aquiring the item. Boiling it down to nothing but "Skill" is pointless as to make anything worthwhile a actual reward the content would have to be extremly hard to give any real "Hell yeah!" effect when you obtained the item.
Luck is a factor in designing good gameplay elements as well, it can't always boil down to Kill ____ Get ____ 100% of the time. If you think that it is...I just don't know what to say.
Yeah same for me, the 21-24 NMs killed it for me. I tried to get this ying yang robe for years and got so unlucky in getting the drop. I ended up having to put my alarm clock at 4AM just not to lose ToD and all. At this point, I thought it was just ridiculous and left FFXI for a more 'casual' game which did not dictate my playing time. So far, FFXIV is heading in the good direction for me although it seems to me that it is taking a lot from WoW-type of gaming, which is mostly for cattering to a broader audience than FFXI used to have. Mix-matching both FFXI-type and WOW-type can be good but will still remain an 'old gen' MMO. What would put it to next gen is actual live content:To the Original Poster. I was thinking of having player (LS) owned towns were we could build our houses and all until a big fat ass dragon or even the empire could atatck and destroy (only when enough people of said town are logged on so they can try and defeat the enemy to minimize the damages on the town), leaving the village in ruins (literally and thus leading to less of an advantage like destroy the 'LS' bank mking it unavailable) and would have to be rebuild by crafters and gatherers.
what games need now is dynamic content that affects the shape of the world! Comparing to FFXI or wow-like will just end up in a old gen MMO. The devs and us need to think outside the box for helping creating the next gen MMORPG.
I just don't want everything handed to us, not really much to ask for is it?
to add on to my last quote, also WoW is also catching on here too but not as well lol Cata is probably the lowest priced xpac I have seen in stores over here it is hilarious XD tells you how much everyone loved that xpac XD!

Sooooo, FFXIV should just become FFXI-2? FFXIV should use the concepts that made FFXI successful, not copy and paste it.
In FFXI, keeping the cap at 75 before they messed it up by uncapping was that content from the original to the expansions were all still played, because of story and actual great items to get from them. From the day Sea/Sky was released to the day levels became uncapped, people always did these events, and for some, took a very long time to get the item you want.
Just using my memory, but before cap, people did BCNM's, KSNM's, Sea, Sky, Dynamis, Limbus, Assault, Besieged, Einherjar, ENM's, ZNM's, and HNM's. By not raising the cap and making gear hard to obtain and have you making long term goals, this is how I want FFXIV to be setup. I want events that I will still be doing years later, this is what was successful about FFXI.
I don't want events that made FFXI successful in FFXIV, I want it's concepts and ideals. This statement is debatable, but this is how I look at it, if you have people still fighting over the same Dragon for years almost everyday to get a few items off him, you made your content right. If you have people doing the same events for years even though new content comes in, you made your content right.
