Someone please explain to me why they dont just implement more XI styles of content? 13 years of content right there....Only reason I can think of is that they are trying to pace it out over each level increase. Honestly XI wasn't good until 70~ anyway, but it did release 25 levels all at once versus the 5 to 10 levels every expansion that you see in most games over the last few years. The open-world is zone bland in this game activity option wise. I still feel one way to fix this is to make it so you're earning something more than gear when you hit cap cause honestly most of us are not stupid. We already know their cycle and many of us (well at least I) will unsub until maybe 2-3 patches. Capacity point/Merit point system, get to it SE.

And 90% of this community will tell you FFXI was just a grindfest and a bad game. Could you imagine this community trying to do salvage, where all your gear is stripped away? Or a tower where you lose if you don't get through 5 floors in 30 minutes? lolz Ultimately there's not much the devs can do. They took customer feedback, implemented it, and now the combat side of the game is boring... Drop rates were doubled so people are running content half as much. The raids were made easier/accessible and everyone that cared had them beat a week or two after hitting level 60. Not much will change in 3.2, new alexander raid that most everyone will beat the first week it's patched in. Maybe 5% of the community will do savage mode and it's back to the same situation we in now. Even the xp from dungeons and fates were doubled between 3.0 and 3.1 because of ppl complaining it was too grindy.

If you want to know why the game is boring, don't look at the devs. Look to your left and your right because your peers made it this way by constantly whining.

Just going by this forum, FFXI apparently did nothing right, and the fact that it survived and thrived for over a decade was due to the Final Fantasy name alone. We're called out on wanting stuff from FFXI with people saying "Don't make this game FFXI-2." or "If you want FFXI stuff, go back to XI." Yet FFXI didn't make content dead as soon as it was released and even the earliest, low level content wasn't invalidated for years until the major shift when Abyssea came along.

As someone who's played both games, what FFXI did right is what FFXIV is doing wrong.

Some people just hear FFXI and think grind and for some reason assume that absolutely anything inspired by FFXI must be inherently grindy. They don't seem to be able to separate mechanics and systems (of which FFXI had many great ones) from incentives (of which FFXI had very few, and thus they were dragged out to keep people playing). It's entirely possible to implement the great systems that FFXI had, or draw some inspiration from them, without making them soul-destroyingly grindy.
