Some of us never played FFXI, so we could give a crap what abilities were called there. I personally think Invincible, Defender, and Destroyer are boring names for those abilities. Hallowed Ground, Defiance, and Deliverance sound a lot better to me.The only thing that bugs me is when they change ability names that existed in FFXI (and essentially did the same thing). Benediction was the ultimate ability of WHM in FFXI (and it stayed the same here, obviously). But Invincible (which did the same thing in FFXI--invulnerability--and stayed the same in the JP version) became Hallowed Ground. Ditto for Defender, etc. I didn't know that one about Defiance (and Deliverance) and I wish they had kept them the same. Deliverance really doesn't fit, to me, at all, and Destroyer would have been fine right next to Defender.

Quite misleading IMO, though. Especially Hallowed Ground, which I guess anyone would assume to be some kind of AoE spell just from the name alone. Defiance seems pretty straightforward to me: It's what you reduce CC effects with. And Deliverance clearly is a healing/ressing spell.

It's called Hallowed Ground because the PLD is "holding on their ground", and rendering themselves impervious to attacks.
With Deliverance, the WAR is abandoning all their sanity, liberating all their wrath and becoming uncontrollable.

Ah, I see. So let's call Fire I "Field of Death" because if you use it a lot on many enemies, you create a field of death with it.
Also, let's rename "Esuna" to "Aphrodisiac", because your group will love you if you use it properly.

Alternatively,
the skill is called "Invincible" because it makes the paladin invincible. The stance is called Destroyer because it makes you good at destroying things.
In the case of Hallowed Ground, there might be one reason the loc team chose this name (other than Hallowed = sacred = paladin things). A loooooooong time ago in 1.x, shortly after jobs were announced, early drafts of the job ability descriptions were added to the dats. Many of them were the same as they ended up, but for example Warrior's 15 min ability was an AOE stun that woke up sleeping allies (lol) and buffed HP iirc.
PLD's was Invincible/Hallowed Ground, but with one extra thing - it required you to stand still and faded upon movement. Maybe someone on the loc team was like "oh well you can't move so it's like you're consecrating this area" and so we got Hallowed Ground. We also had Holy Succor at the time (now called Clemency), so maybe they were trying to holy up our names.
