I've been tanking for years now and honestly, I hate people like Evangela or Fourbestintoner. You have no idea what a serious mess it is for a tank to get the aggro back from your pulls and the stress it is for a tank to reposition the mobs for you to avoid easily any AOE... Then again, I dont mind doing a speed run as long I'm fully aware of what kind of healer or DPS I'm teaming with. People like them think like they are all high and mighty because they do High lvl stuffs with their FC. They believe that people must just follow what they say but never considered what others feel. Whether the others agree or not, they dont care : they have to much ego to consider others... As for me, I dont trust a random group as long I havent tested them on a first batch of mobs. Then I decide if I speed up or not. You wanna pull ? sure ! tank it in the same time, I have no remorse to quit and queue up again, since people who respect others deserve my time and efforts.

Sorry but as a tank it is your job to keep up the pace, which most people prefer swift. If you don't understand this concept, you shouldn't be a tank. If you want to take it slow and easy, consider the gear the rest of your group is wearing. If they can handle big pulls, consider doing so. If they are under geared, then take it slow. It's your job, and quite honestly nothing more annoying than a slow tank.

The proper pace of a group is not necessarily that which most people in the group prefer. The proper pace is one which all the people in the group can handle - so big pulls and speedruns are fine if and only if everybody in the group is fine with them. Slow and easy is far better than fast wipes.
Honestly, DPS who do not wait for the tank, but run ahead and start pulls on their own - those are far more annoying than any number of slow tanks.

While it is annoying and disrespectful when DDs and healers pulls ahead of the tank, it's also frustrating when the tank pulls only like 3 or less mobs specially when there are AOE DDs (BLM/SMN) in the group. It can be overlooked if the tank is new or undergeared but if not and he's doing it just because he wants to (despite being able to "tank ways more than the average") then he's the one who's being disrespectful to the others.

In the OP's case tho, that healer sucks for pulling ahead without even saying anything at all.

You say that like half of the random BLMs/SMNs in DF actually know what they are doing. Too many times have I gotten into parties where the BLM/SMN is doing low DPS. I didn't notice it much before, but lately I feel like I see them a lot more often.

As for my opinion regarding the thread topic... Not everyone likes speedruns. A tank doesn't have to speedrun if they don't want to... but the party as a whole should discuss it, if they feel it's an issue. I dislike speedruns. My preferred dungeon run is one that is fast-paced where we focus on killing smaller groups of mobs. Everyone focus dps on the smaller packs (including healer, who will spend less time healing) then move on to the next right away. Usually ends up being a smoother run overall.

These days I usually queue with my friend (who is a tank). If DPS get over-anxious and start pulling themselves, I will let them die. People need to chill out.

Recently, in the Vault, we had a Ninja who decided they didn't want to wait for Stoneskin before the second boss and pulled it. Tank walked out and I just stood outside the boss because there was no need for them to do that. They said "hurry up" when we asked them why they pulled. But guess what? They ended up almost dying and getting flung into the black holes during that fight... which is why I was trying to get a Stoneskin on them in the first place. I noticed they couldn't dodge worth crap during the first boss.

Wouldn't this be the reason we have even less tanks doing 50+ content? Why they have a gate every two to three trash packs? Que was 30 mins for healer other day. Can't imagine what it is for some dps.

I also know quite a few people with at least one 60 tank. They just won't tank a roulette unless they don't know at least two of three other players. It is awesome to get a great fast party. But since I don't know the other persons situation on the other side of the screen, why would I try to be mean or make them miserable? Working on the assumption that you consider yourself a decent person on your side of the screen.

I don't know. I only q'ed as a DPS recently and it took me 5-12 mins. not really that long.

for today standard, higher chance that the diva tank "you pull it you tank it" will get booted by 3 players that want to do it fast. which is a good thing. the current FFXIV community is better than 2.X where the tanks are allowed to act like a second coming savior.

Go ahead and pull mobs ahead of me when I'm tanking. I have other things to do and don't mind leaving. How's that extra time waiting fora replacement tank working for your speed run now?

I find it extremely confusing how people can wait in a queue for 10-15 minutes to get a party and then bitch because the dungeon could be done 2 minutes faster. If your time was that precious, you wouldn't tolerate waiting in the queue in the first place.

Here's a fact for you: you don't really need a tank to finish neverreap. I've healed it through with a ilvl180 group when the tank dced right after the dungeon began in late night and the 3 of us didn't feel like to wait for the queue.
So why don't you want to tank anymore again?
