Okay, I think two things REALLY need to be highlighted here because they get missunderstood like 5 times per page:
1. None of the people who are in favor of faster runs or who feel like a tank who is only doing small & slow pulls on purpose is not living up to his job are talking about new or undergeared tanks. Most have already stated that they are very nice and forgiving with newbies, always ready to help them out or at least not give them any bullshit for it. Same with tanks who make the decision based on seeing how much the other party members suck. This entire topic is about tanks that could do better but refuse to do so.
2. Speed. For some of us, it's not about the actual speed of the run, it's about the challenge/thrill of having to deal with something beyond "what I can do in my sleep". For the other half, yes, the actual speed matters, and you know what? They prefer spending 10 minutes waiting for a better group/tank + a 15 min run to a slow 25 min run, because those 10 minutes can at least be spent on something else. Yes, if you only have melee dps, small pulls are faster. But that is not what this thread is about. It's about slowing down a run on purpose that would be faster if you did bigger pulls, simply because you personally don't feel like tanking bigger pulls.
Pretty sure the thread is still about people besides the tank pulling without communicating based on their own misconceptions of what makes a run faster, actually. OP mentioned that he is fine with bigger pulls, and simply doesn't appreciate other people in the party trying to force him into a specific pace. Which is a valid complaint.
And I dunno about you, but I find big pulls boring as hell, because people do them so often that I can, in fact, do them in my sleep. Nothing wrong with you feeling that way, but trying to enforce that on everyone else simply because you feel it is the right way is actually no different from a tank deciding the pace for themselves.
Except only one of you has heavy armor and enmity generation.

The way I see it is the party needs to cooperate, period, no matter the experience level of the players... and when that does not happen, things go downhill fast and all the speed and efficiency one would like, will be lost to drama and stress or rage quits, thus not accomplishing the goal of speed running to begin with.
If some want to run fast and the tank doesn't, that is not cooperation and the tank should probably decide what he wants to do.
If I want to force a speed run or anything not routine or anticipated for the content, I will do it on a premade party because people who use the duty finder should have the benefit of it actually saying "speed run" before they go in, so they should know before hand what they are facing.
Outside of the required completion time and directives stated in the duty finder, if there is no indication that overrunning the tank and playing roles other than your own should be the rule of entry, I don't.
I like to give all party members the benefit of doing what the content info indicates and adjusting from there as needed.

Regarding the whole DPS pulling issue... I just remembered from ages ago (like... around 2.0 or possibly 2.1) when I was still levelling up my conjurer. Went into Tamtara normal, and there was an archer who insisted on running ahead and attacking the mobs before the tank had even a chance at reaching the mobs. Put up with it until we got to the third mini-boss, where you have to go get the item to remove the barrier. The archer ran into the room with the item (rosary?) and aggroed all the mobs, then came running back to the tank, obviously intending the tank to grab them off of him. The tank didn't. And I just looked at the archer, then looked at the tank. Sheathed my wand and watched the archer die and the mobs run back and reset. Then the three of us went and pulled the group properly while the archer had to respawn at the start and catch up.
Sometimes, trigger-happy dps just need to learn the hard way that what they're doing is not okay ^^;
(And no, I didn't know the tank since before -- I'd come in together with the other dps.)
I hope there was some basic communication between the party and the archer before you just let him die. :3Regarding the whole DPS pulling issue... im one of those tanks who lets people do that alot die. had to do it last night in Copperbell mines. Ninja kept rushing ahead of everyone talking tash and ripping aggro off. healer stoped healing him we let him die then we kicked him
haha, I never really thought twice about pauses between pulls until I started leveling ninja. There are time where I see it fall off because we've been sitting around for some reason, and mentally I'm always like "nuuuuuuuuuu!", but that's about it for me. Recasting is easy, of course, but it is fun to see how far to you can go on your initial Huton cast.
Shit talking the tank before kicking is what gets you the GM talking. Since none of the speedrun whiners ever do anything without whining about it first.except it's not a ToS violation, confirmed by a GM.
