That warring triad is a mystery. Are they the source of power that fuels the whole place? If they break free / die or whatever won't make the whole place fall down destroying it? Or it just a huge magical experimental flying lab / Alcatraz of some sort?
Hubris. From what I've gathered, the Allagans destroyed themselves.

The fall of the Empire is (somewhat) explained in the Crystal Tower storyline.

CT's explanation unfortunately fails rather spectacularly to allow for the possibility of something like Azys Lla even existing, much less surviving 5000 years in an operational state, even though we met no less than three people who by all rights should have known about it. It appears to be self-sustaining as far as food, water, and power; has an entire functional residential complex; and more than enough in the way of tech to be useful in reconstruction efforts. And yet it was just mysteriously abandoned with no records pointing towards why.

I have a sickening feeling that either the writers for CT had no idea what they were doing (tragically possible), or the entire thing was staged in-universe to sell us a load of BS towards some later objective. I kinda want to believe the latter, but it's too soon to say.

Or, now follow me on this, we haven't seen the last of the Heavensward story. There's also Void Ark to provide a potential link to what happened. We've got a whole year or two to find out what happened up there and maybe even discover that, gasp, the Allag are alive and well... on the Moon. Azys Lla could very well be to the Allag what Battleship Island was to the Japanese.
