I wouldn't mind the changes so much, if they actually removed some of the RNG from spirit bonding. Nothing more enjoyable than spending 2 hours SB'ing gear, only to convert it and get nothing but elemental materia, go to mutamix to try to change it, and get more elemental materia.

Of course if they did this, then I suppose people who rely on materia for gil, would cry bloody murder, since it'd be so much easier to get specific materia you wanted.

This would make it so much better. At least then when I get a materia I don't need I can "trade it" by selling it and buying the one I do need, instead of having worthless elemental material that I'll never use.

cause the guy with materia isn't as good at their job.
cause the guy with materia is really annoying and frustrates other people in the group.
cause there is no guy with materia that plays at that time.
cause you're actually playing with your friends and they don't care.

With gear approaching 220, each piece of equipment may have about 100 accuracy. Since they are not going to scrap this outdated idea, the melds help for us to be able to maximize stats and wear gear, IE = you need to meet accuracy cap meaning pieces are not interchangeable, this lets that happen

People want customization and when SE delivers they complain? LOL. I'm GLAD this is coming man i've been waiting for this forever melding/gemming my equipment as I see fit? Hell yeah. It also creates an actual purpose with the new crafted accessories and gear that crafters made because we never ever used materia unless you did Novus or pentamelded which costs an arm and a leg.

Regarding bringing the person who bothered to meld their gear, yeah i'd bring them over someone who wasn't why?

    1) they actually took the time to optimize their class
    2) push themselves to their fullest potential

It's like any other MMO you take someone who's geared, is prepared, and you raid with them to me it's just how I play my MMOs, gil will actually have a purpose instead of just sitting in my inventory rotting away.

Having melds right now basically means you have a lot of time, patience, and money. It does not mean you're a better player than someone else.

Add to the fact that secondary stats seem to have less of a stat weight than in pre-HW and you end up with only marginal differences that, while are nice, do not make or break a player's capabilities

I'm well aware of this but what i'm saying is if there was someone who was in ilvl 210 vs someone fully melded in 220 you'd take them over the other person it's going to happen in clear groups/farm groups. Yeah people don't want this to be the norm but it's like not enchanting yourself in WoW you have the option to meld yourself why wouldn't you? Yes it takes time, but from the sources cited in the thread earlier it's not going to be as RNG related as the melds we have right now.

I never said that having all this gear means you're better than anyone else, don't put words in my mouth i'm just saying from my own perspective is that I would take a melded person in my static over a non melded person because my static would push themselves rather than your average player.

If I were in his position the constant stress from all the rampant moving of the goalpost by players would have caused me to go bald ages ago.
What proof do you have that it's the same people? I would beg to differ on that and I would wager most people would not hold two contradictory views on a specific topic.

So then you are automatically assuming the person who has better gear is just better? I've seen i190 bards do less damage than i170 ones because they don't play their class to their max potential.

"BiS or GTFO" is a stupid attitude to have. For all you know, that 220 melded person is trash.

If you're comparing two similarly skilled players then sure, better gear wins, but you can't make that judgement on skill just from looking at gear. That's just being elitist.
