Melding on tomestone / raid gear

Do not do this, this is a horrible idea. Unless you are going to have materia purchasable with GC seals, hunt seals or law, this is probably one of the worst ideas Ive heard.

Im a senior officer in a 500 player FC with four airships and 10 million company credits. Im not the least bit concerned about myself in this situation.

I am literally thinking of the people that are not in a situation to acquire a ton of materia without spending (all of) their hard earned gil.

This is going to create a whole other level of elitism. I really hope that there is going to be another option for players aside from current ways to get materia or this will get ugly.

I feel the same way to a point, only because this, like the Relic steps, puts the players in charge of your progression, or attempts at progression. Market manipulation will happen almost immediately. Guarantee it. Someone on my server already bought up a sizeable chunk of Det/critical IVs today.

Likely won't be a big deal outside of savage content and anything below EX primals, but I can already see the PF and this playing out like the no bonus parties.

I have all 4 of my airships, last one is almost 50, and I as well have 0 issue collecting Materia for this (nowhere near 10m credits /cry) but most players will be SOL. I'm not going to completely poop on the idea, but if every piece will be able to be pentamelded, I'll likely quit doing anything other than Relic and 24mans. I am not going to break the bank for 3 months of playing to only go blow 10m again. Thanks but no thanks.

It's 1 materia per piece of equipment. Probably at 100% chance to meld.

So, no, it won't drain everyone's money, unless they hope to NEVER earn any gil in any way whatsoever besides running dungeons and hoping the 69 gil drops pay for their food, potions and materia. They could farm fleece or any of the good leather skins and make largely more than enough.

I'm a sub-leader in a 67 player FC with 3 airship and a massive 348k credits. I'm the highest crafter in the FC, probably the wealthiest (bar isn't so high, but I'm not poor). And I think it would cost less than 2 million per 2 patch (for 3.2, but not 3.3), if we do get V tier more affordable/accessible. You could get 100k from 200 cobalt ores half the time (price fluctuates between 250 and 450 each ore), in what, 20 minutes of gathering? So, in 6-8 months this represents 6 hours of gathering. Other money making methods exist, I just don't know how fast it is to the minute. It's still reasonable for most.

I think people should not worry as content is not designed to require melds, unless you are trying to be one of the first groups to clear a new brand raid tier where every stat matters. Just see it as an option and a way to customise your tomestone gear to suit your style, stacking speed or crit or whatever. Since pretty much all gear will be meldable it should really invigorate the materia market and get more people doing spiritbonding. The exploratory missions even drop gear of relevant item levels which can be converted.

I really hope they change this before 2.2's release, or make the acquisition of materia far easier and not so reliant on RNG.

They could start by removing the stupid elemental materia, that have no use whatsoever anyway, besides being the "too bad, you lose" result of materia converting.

Otherwise, exploratory stuff will drop items that can convert probably to tier V, as well as letting you trade gear that's useless to you for other stuff, possibly straight up materia. Chests might also have materia. I predict the price of tier V will drop once other non-Mutamix methods exist and are commonplace. And the tier IV spike we saw this morning will be low again (maybe not 15k low) once people undercut each other to sell their spiritbond materia.

You'd be able to earn gil from spiritbonding, but nothing prevents you killing a few hundred cockatrice, or sending your retainer to do it, and sell the thighs on MB. Insert any other mat with good value that can be farmed with combat. Fleece and snurble tuft have stable prices on my server (lowest is 400, but they sometimes go fetch 700-800 for NQ).

This would make it so much better. At least then when I get a materia I don't need I can "trade it" by selling it and buying the one I do need, instead of having worthless elemental material that I'll never use.

cause the guy with materia isn't as good at their job.
cause the guy with materia is really annoying and frustrates other people in the group.
cause there is no guy with materia that plays at that time.
cause you're actually playing with your friends and they don't care.

This a terrible idea and could scare many people away from raiding. Specially with how hard the content is at the moment.
