Now, to address the OP's housing issue, as that seems to be the clincher for you. Frankly, what you want is a pipe-dream, I hate to tell you. What you need to remember is that SE is a business, and they look at everything with cost/profit in mind. Do they make a filthy amount of money from this game? Yes. Does that mean SE is willing to take a small chunk of that to appease a relatively small portion of players who willingly admit they only stay subscribed some of the time? Sorry, but to put it bluntly, hell no. Notice how I say SE; not the development team. Yoshi-P and his squad have NO say on the budget unfortunately; they need that approved via the big-wigs far up the corporate ladder. (yay 1k letter limit!)

As for your argument for this keeping new players away; I have to say I believe you are grossly overestimating how many people play this game with their penultimate goal being to own a house....and then log off for long periods of time. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my FC house, but I also realize that in SE's eyes, keeping that neighborhood up costs money. If I unsub for months on end, that's a loss for SE. Don't think of this as a charity, I guarantee you SE will quickly prove you wrong.

That's 5 million in cost versus 10 million in profit a month. That's also stupidly skewed to support your assumption.

Server upkeep and physical maintenance (never letting them fail, cooling, changing pieces) and bandwidth, will be the costly stuff. Also the upfront cost of servers is a huge expense that they pay over months of no profit (kind of like the owner of a business is "in the red" if they have to buy machinery first before selling a single item).

I doubt they give "unlimited" plans for MMO owners, that don't go fetch in the 6 digits for so much traffic. You need multiple dedicated very large band lines.

I'm honestly amazed that there are people who think it's good design to essentially rent out a portion of the server and not risk losing it if you don't even pay the subscription. Heck, you even get an 80% refund if you do lose it. That's stupidly generous.

I own a house too, and if I quit I would want someone to take it from me. Silly complaints.
