Thinking this game is a bad investment

You all are completely fixated on buzz words like "entitlement" and "selfishness" and whatnot, that you aren't thinking clearly about the whole thing. You are letting SE weaponize you and get you to defend them when you should be on one side, demanding for a real fix to the housing sustainability problem. Instead you are being a part of the problem by arguing to keep things broken, instead of arguing to fix things.

Stop being so selfish and self-centered and ask for a longterm fix. You're just letting people use you by agreeing to argue for this. I'm really blown away that you cannot see this.

According to the first post, they don't even own one. Personally I could care less, yes I own a house, didn't spend tons on it just wanted it for the stable and garden. I did fix it up but with mostly gathered items through retainers, some I crafted but not huge gil sinks. If I'm leaving the game then someone else can have it. No point letting it sit there abandoned. Actually now that the reclaim is there I'll get some gil back if I ever did come back.

My opinion about though is this is just a house cleaning measure,out with the old in with the new. Once the junk is cleared more houses will probably be added, but probably never have enough for everyone. Who knows this could be a one time thing. Once implemented 45 days later, it could be gone along with the rest of the trash, who knows. They won't say it now if its just a temp thing as it could just bring people back to just log in and keep their house. Never know.

EVERYONE has demanded fixes over many and more threads on the housing topic over the last two years. Nobody's fault but your own that you apparently can't be chuffed to read them.

As for your point, this is what I see from you:

I will never be able to enjoy the final reward without literally committing to the game forever. And I really don't want to make that commitment, but I also don't want to not have the game's largest and most valuable reward for all of the time and effort I've put into it.

In short, you do not want to pay a sub fee every other month.

As for new platers being drawn to games because of housing, most of us prefer the GAME thanks, not the fluff. Plus no new player is going to be able to afford a house for a very long time anyway.

I still say personal housing should be instanced. Make it so you can visit your party leader's house via some option similar to how you view another person's Garrison in WoW. The housing wards should've been left to FCs only.

Honestly the only real long term solution is instanced housing for everyone.... but then it wouldn't be "special" or a goal since everyone has one at that point.

I don't care if it's instanced or not. I did the instanced housing in Rift and loved it. I also like the neighborhood look we have here except there are few neighbours around anymore.

I could not help but feel a mix of both amusement and horror at your comment. Being a person deeply involved in economics and finance this kind of naivety stuns me, but for the argument's sake let's make a very, very simple budget that is HEAVILY skewed towards your assumption. First, what does SE make from this game in a month? Let's assume absolute minimum here; SE claims 5 mil subs, but I think we all know that's bull, so let's cut that down to 1 mil. Let us also assume that EVERY sub is a legacy, and that they do not have extra retainers, and no one used the cash shop. At all. 1 mil x 10$ (legacy base monthly) = 10 million dollars in revenue per month. (moving to next post because yay 1k letter limit)

Now we move onto expenses. Rent/upkeep/utilities first. I'll base this off of where I work; a very, VERY large grocery store (as in it's larger than a Walmart Superstore; we can fit several football fields inside. I also happen to know our monthly rent, which is (rounded up) 400k a month. Utilities cost about 200k a month (we actually have maxed out what the power grid can feed us, btw), so 600k a month for utilities for a MASSIVE facility maxing out it's power usage. But let's more than quadruple that, let's make rent/utilities 3 million a month for your argument.Now, we move to wages. The FF team for 14 is 200 people, last I heard. Let's assume that on average, they make 120,000 a year. That's stupidly high, but meh. That's 10k a month for 200 people, thus 2 mil a month for wages. So total costs; 3 mil rent/util/upkeep, 2 mil wages. That's 5 million in cost versus 10 million in profit a month. That's also stupidly skewed to support your assumption.

Hmm even if they added instanced housing (Assuming they don't remove our current wards/neighborhoods) we are still are left with the same issues we currently have which is what to do with the houses that are completely inactive within the wards. For me the only thing I could think of is what Square is already implementing which is removing inactive houses after X# of days. Now I question whether 45 is to short of a time (I'm kind of leaning closer to 2 maybe 3 months myself), but I personally feel they are on the right track even it it means players will be booted off.

Tbh it makes me think of situations like when you dc or have to clean up your FC member list. Sucks having to vote off long afk/dced party members, or having to mass kick fc members that have been inactive for months, but its something that has to be done to keep the current playership going and relatively happy.

Of course housing has far more investment at stake, but even so theres a good majority of wards where 1/3 to 2/3 of all the houses within are completely abandoned and inactive for months on end many well over a year even. Its not surprising to see houses empty of any furnishings or any real investment outside of the plot they cost itself. If you ask me the only real way to make better use of this is to open them up for new owner/fc to buy as unfortunate it is to the previous owners. Then maybe we can see more active community within the wards in general.

Haha personally would love to hear any other ideas to better deal with this outside of just making everything instanced, since for myself I wouldn't mind instanced houses in general though only if it doesn't remove what we already have. A big part of the fun of having a house is the community of friends/fc mates around it along with the neighbors you come to grow acquainted. If every plot was just instanced in its own world instead like many other mmos then I'd imagine life would grow pretty stale in eorzea, and at least for me I'd never would bother with housing at all at that point haha.
