Tons of great ideas in this thread, I particularly love the Jukebox option and having to obtain soundtracks by the source they originate from, this idea alone can open up so many possibilities and replay value for older content.

As a simialr thing to the Jukebox, how about a bookshelf with the Unending Journey to start with While getting other books (And other pieces of lore that can be fund in dungeons) from other sources (The Great Gubal Library, Dusk Vigil, Fractal Continuum, Satasha and Tam-Tara HM) while others will be given from shops or received as quests/achievement rewards (The entire Zodia Braves cycle, The War of the Magi book, some History texts.)
Speaking of which, we could also use this to split the Unending Journey into several volumes when in Private Houses, one for the MSQ (Dubbed "Chronicles of A Realm Reborn" with sections titled "Rebirth", "Awakening", "Maelstrom", "Defenders", "Dreams" and "Fall") one for the Heavenward MSQ (Dubbed "Heavenward Tales" with similar sections for future patches), one for the side stories (Called "Chronicles of a New Era" after what I think is an existing section) and one for the Job/Class storyline and the Relics (I got nothing for the title)
Please no. More items would mean more items to place, when item limit is already a problem.Speaking of which, we could also use this to split the Unending Journey into several volumes when in Private Houses, one for the MSQ (Dubbed "Chronicles of A Realm Reborn" with sections titled "Rebirth", "Awakening", "Maelstrom", "Defenders", "Dreams" and "Fall") one for the Heavenward MSQ (Dubbed "Heavenward Tales" with similar sections for future patches), one for the side stories (Called "Chronicles of a New Era" after what I think is an existing section) and one for the Job/Class storyline and the Relics (I got nothing for the title)
Also, the Unending Journey has already been confirmed, so please look forward to it:
And while I'm at it, other features that have been mentioned/confirmed by the devs:
Also, as you may know, there is currently no system in place to allow you to upgrade your land plot, which means it wouldn't be possible to carry over your furnishings were you able to upgrade from a small plot to a medium one. However! We are looking into implementing a moving feature, which will allow you to bring everything to your new home.
We are still in the planning phase of this system, but once there are developments we will be sure to let you know.I have touched on this topic before and wanted to provide a brief update. The development team is continuing to look into a feature that will allow you to set the brightness of the lighting in your houses, but as a result of adjusting the development schedule the team has been prioritizing other tasks. Once there is more concrete information about this feature I will be sure to update you.Greetings, everyone,
I was able to get some responses to a few requests, and I would like to relay that information to you all.
There are no plans to add a market board as a housing item at the moment. Doing so would serve to further increase the load on the housing areas. Since market boards are already available in the housing areas, they would like players to utilize these instead.
The aesthetician bell is planned to be released in the future; however, there is no exact time frame on this.
Fish tanks have been requested for some time now and rest assured that the dev. team is looking into it, but they have no updates to share at the moment. Thanks for all the feedback! The Community Teams were busy in Tokyo over the last week, and we have been playing catch up. Alas I was able to get some answer to your requests!
The development team thinks dyeing wallpapers is a brilliant idea, and they have looked into it, but the game mechanic to change the color of wallpaper is not available. They would need to work on creating this mechanic first before they can implement this feature.
At the moment it's uncertain whether this would be possible from a technical standpoint, and the dev. team needs to see if this project can be added to their schedule. They don’t want to make any promises, but they will be looking into it!
It turns out that stacking large outdoor furnishings is something that is quite difficult to accomplish with the current game mechanics, so they are thinking to prepare a giant outdoor furnishing that will allow players to climb up high.
The development team is brainstorming on what kind of object they should prepare for easy rooftop access, so please hang in there just a bit longer.
After an internal discussion, it turns out that implementing a feature that allows lighting in houses to be adjusted will require more development time than what they had first thought, so they will need a bit longer for this.
They are working on this feature along with the huge task of Heavensward, so this will be implemented sometime after 3.0. The development team has assured me that they are indeed working on this, so please look forward to it!Many of these posts are older and some ideas may have been scrapped/changed by now. There are a lot more Dev responses in this thread but those are about features that are already implemented so I left them out to prevent this post from getting even longerThe development team is currently looking into implementing a new furnishing item which would allow players to place a minion they own on their property. However, they're still checking to see if they can accomplish this feature, so we can’t make any promises as to whether it will be added at the moment.

Maybe I should mentioned havinng the books work like Minions, Mounts, Cards, etc. being a one time use item and the Shelf only needing to be placed (and the books the character has "used" beaing readable from all bookshelves), thought that brings up the "character data" issue
Just had a random thought and immediately jumped on here before I forget it...
So we're getting a lot of portraits lately, first with the GC leaders, then last update had Cid, Minfillia, etc. I think I saw Haurchefant is coming next (given, that one's deserved), and probably after that they'll follow up with the other Scions and such.
What I would much rather see and imagine would be much more lore-appropriate would be portraits, depictions, or even just the symbols of the Twelve. They're part of our character's identity and they have a much heavier influence in the lives of most Eorzeans. Plus, I mean... like Cid and me are besties and all, but I think he'd find it a little odd if I mounted a portrait as tall as he is in my house.
Has there been any confirmation on house sharing?.. My girlfriend and I purchased the house together but still I have not been able to use even the stable.
Hi, Nashred. They have not implemented house sharing yet, but it has been confirmed. I am unable to find an official date for its implementation, but there's always the hope that it'll be soon.

House Sharing Feature
We'll be adding a system that will allow you to give furnishing and gardening rights to five people of your choosing.
Interior lighting feature
We'll be adding a furnishing that will allow you to adjust the brightness levels inside of your house.
Renaming Free Companies
We'll be making it possible to change the name of your free company. However, once doing this, you won’t be able to do it again for a set period of time.
Removal of Inactive Houses
We'll be adding a system that removes houses that are not in use. We’ll be announcing the criteria for removal in the future.

Now I mentioned this in the general discussion in a thread about the relinquishing of land that they announced. (Which I do think is needed). There is a couple of things I wish to be added that I am sure will free up more housing for all.
1: One personal house per account per server.
I have a personal house on my main and I do have an alt I get on from time to time that is on the same server. Now with this means my alt would not be able to by a house on Goblin. But if I want to play an alt on a different server, that is open to me. Just not on Goblin.
Reason for this suggestion. I know of a person on my server. Who on top of their main, has 2 alts. Each of them own a personal house (3 plots). Then he also has his own fc. Also with a house. (so 4 houses in total) When I've been on. I have not seen him do anything on his alts other than garden. It makes me sick on the inside that people can do this. When there is already limited housing to begin with.
2: Allow alts to share the personal house.
Okay this is to go with the alt. My main, or which ever character bought the house, they have the rights to it. However if I wish to teleport or access a few things, like vendors and the food, I can. It is already in the works to share your house with the one you bond with. Let me do the same with my alt.
100% agree with both of those suggestions.
I think this would make a larger change in the housing dilemma than most people realize. I would go so far as to say make the above changes, back-date it and put all items from alt character houses on the Resident Caretaker. However, back-dating would open up the issue about how SE would know which house a player wants to keep (if they have 1 for each alt). :/
