That's not to say we should be grateful just to get scraps from the table. On the contrary, a good business relationship means a quality product, and a quality product for MMOs usually entails new content. We are free to and should critique them on their product.

But the money we pay? That's for one service, and one service only.
For you people arguing technicalities, please stop. That is not a valid argument against the delay, you know what is? "They needed a break after working long hours during the creation of Heavensward", you know what isn't? "You're paying for subscription and as such, have no right to claim you're upset and expect content to be released on a standard they have set in the past". Let me make a real world comparison for you people, when you order a pizza what do you expect? I personally expect it to be in good shape in and warm at the very least when it arrives, when it arrives for at the toppings and cheese are stuck to the top of the pizza box do I claim "Oh well, I paid for a pizza and I got a pizza, I just have to put the toppings on myself and eat cardboard tasting pizza!", no I don't. I call back and explain the situation, they more than gladly replace it for free, with a complimentary drink and side dish that I never ordered to begin with because that is good PR. If they hadn't done that I would never recommend that place to my family and friends, and maybe even give them a bad review.

That logic applies to SE, they are not your friends. They are business trying to nickle and dime you for as much money as possible while having a minimal negative effect on their reputation (for example, the cash shop). I've recruited 4 friends to FFXIV myself, 2 are no longer playing and 1 is on leave until 3.3 due to Heavensward being extremely lackluster. You know what one of things I used to entice them into playing? I told them that FFXIV releases content every 3-4 months and when they do, it's almost always good content. That no longer holds true, and I am no longer going to recruit new people into that game using that as "bait" so to speak. I've started babbling though, my point is please don't bother arguing technicalities. That is not what we pay for, it is what's listed in the ToS, but again now what we pay for. Not one of you can tell me you'll subscribe if FFXIV will stop getting content. That is literally what I consider a "white knight" response, it is entirely pointless and you are just stating the obvious for the sake of defending SE. WoW has a dedicated fanbase that have been playing for over 10 year and not once have I seen that argument being used, that should tell you how how much a pile of **** it is.

Let me reiterate

Reasonable argument
The developers needed a vacation after the giant project that was Heavensward.
What I consider to be a White Knight argument, for the sake of defending SE for whatever reason
You don't pay for content updates, you pay for access to the servers.
Not to be rude or anything but I feel it's necessary, no shit. Just to let you know, the bulk of our subscription money goes to profits, then paying the development team, and then server costs which are but a miniscule cost in the large scale of things (development costs likely cost upwards of 0.7 million a month).

And last but not least, yes, subscription is a rather small $21 a month (everything related to currency in this post is AUD), pretty much the cost of a pizza. But, we are paying in expectation of new content and over 5 months that is $100 compared to the usual $60-70 for the same amount of content, and before you make the claim that the 1-3 months was for Heavensward content, no, I paid for the expansion. What can I get for 100 AUD here? 1 brand new AAA game + a AAA game that's a few years old. That should answer the "Why are you unsubbing, it's only 2 extra months?" people have been throwing out.
