If you guys feel so entitled about it, you can always unsub (not paying), and sub (pay) again when the patch is here.

That was reductio ad absurdum, fancy Latin for arguing to extremes to show a point. It's not supposed to be a serious analogy. Obviously content happens.
They acknowledge that new content is a good business relationship with the consumer. They provided regular content to maintain that relationship.
They acknowledge the subscription is for server access. Once that transaction is made and the access provided, they owe nothing. Finito. What they do with the money is their prerogative. It is not a solid grounds for arguing that they should provide content (but a good business relationship is).
And if you don't agree that the company (Square-Enix) is meeting those standards, thus reducing the quality of the product, you are able to end the "relationship" by taking your "business" elsewhere. They should be critiqued and held accountable on that level.
This isn't a defense, this is knowing what you're paying for. I have said many times they should be critiqued.
I believe the fine print that one is subscribing for "server access" and nothing else is more of a legal definition of what you are allotted. That way you can't sue SE for when the game (years down the road) goes under, to be compensated for monetary value of what your character holds in terms of the Odin mount, cash shop gear, or whatever you deem the esoteric gear to hold. They acknowledge the subscription is for server access. However, I'm certain is it expected that you receive updates at regular intervals for the service.
Because the example that you are only granted "server access" is like saying having a subscription to Netflix only allows you to log in. Regardless of how many or little movies/tv shows are on the service. It is expected that Netflix, upon paying them a subscription, that you receive updates in the form of more content.
Plus while I agree that they should be critiqued, I still believe people who "are entitled" are still justified. There should be a grey area between paying $100 over five months (buying Heavensward itself and paying for five months), and simply unsubbing. The grey area is voicing one's opinion.
I think that the bigger issue here is that a lot of us feel like SE just isn't even listening anymore. They bring us useless features that no one asked for (smart un-away system that was wholly unnecessary) and very big bits of content are entirely broken for players (housing). Content doesn't really count when more than half the playerbase cannot even enjoy it. Add salt into the wound, we already know what is coming in the new 24 man. Here's a hint: More of what was in the LAST 24 man. A couple new primals? Ok that will give us maybe a week of figuring out and to be generous another week of farming. Then they will remain untouched unless they are needed for the new relic questchain. The only consolation is that we'll at least have two more dungeons to add to Fractal Ad Nasuem and Everreap.
Right now my week looks like this:
Tuesday night: farm all alex NM.
Wednesday night: Cap esos
Rest of the week: mess with old relic quests or hang about hoping guildies will need help with something
There really is just a distinct lack of content for players to do. Sure I could level another job. Another job I can't even gear because I have to ration my ESOs out between my warrior and black mage. I don't feel I need to have more jobs at 60 when I can barely even gear the ones I've got due to these silly lockouts. If there weren't lockouts at least people could be gearing their other characters. Then again... that would just be more of...
The only two dungeons we have.
Good gravy, there's just no good answer and I'm starting feel completely burned out on this game.
Only thing I say we need...is mainly a simple thing cause I am sure more dungeons are coming in 3.1(so expert roulette is not a concern)..is more armor space in the armory chest itself..I am leveling all classes so...including job classes..so imma have quite a bit of gear..so idk

Friend/recruitment code for special items and things (use before paying first sub) RACN78W5 (updated) info on items here http://sqex.to/Cz9 code is entered via the mogstation.
Undoubtedly, but it still stands that they have defined the subscription as server access.
And I don't feel like skimming Netflix contracts so I'm going to make a guess that it's the same way, you pay to access their current content, you're not paying to receive new content. They add new content in order to maintain a quality service.
I agree, and no I'm not arguing for unhappy people to unsub. It's to point out that SE makes new content to keep us as a consumer.
Know what you're paying for, and you're not paying for new content. SE is obliged (to various degrees) to create content, but it's for a different reason.
I hate to tell you but that is what alot of people do. It's not healthy for the developers for it to be this way though, having a yoyoing income is kind of a big deal.
You are right. It's got to look hard for numbers, but it's largely a case of do you trust the entertainment company to keep up your sub. I don't blame people for wanting to take their money elsewhere. I usually do the 6 month plan just to send a message that I like the game for basically what it is. But then again I don't play many other AAA games over the year.
This year I've spent more on destiny than this game, but eh. While I enjoy that shooter, I feel better spending it on an FF mmo.
there's no white knight-ing here, just the reality. you don't like the product, you don't buy them. that's the reason i am here, i don't like the current situation my main game is at, so i am taking a break, although my accounts are still subscribed.
well so far, i'm liking it in here, except of course for the few spoiled, self-entitled, vocal brats around here.![]()
