We seem to be forgetting that "Fun" is a very subjective concept and some people are taking it a little too personally when SE adds content that they don't like or otherwise doesn't fit their own definition of "Fun". Unless you're easy to please you're never going to like 100% of the content that any company adds to their games. If you take a step back and can't objectively find most of the game's content entertaining that might be a sign that the game isn't for you and you need to go find something else to play. Or I guess you can force yourself to play something you don't like, hoping in vain that it might one day change to meet your standards.

To each his own, but if I disliked the majority of content in a game the way a lot of posters seem to dislike FFXIV I personally wouldn't be playing it.

I do find it quieter...and I do think se could change things.

Many posters have suggested ideas that could keep people much more occupied
but sadly none are acknowledged by se..

And as for the type of replies from our comrades well...unfortunately many are responding with instant lashing, many refuse or cant understand that a variety can be good thing, engaging and creative player participation can also be a good thing.

This game shouldn't be a clone of ffxi, it doesn't have to be an exact wow copy, or rift, or a copy of <insert favorite game here>. Wanting a copy is never the best choice but grabbing the best qualities out of them all certainly would be!

IMO we need ffxiv to have the best aspects of all these games, and any other I'm not familiar with.

Unfortunately some are dead set that no matter what se does, its "ok" and "we should be thankful that they provide it." ummmm..... O.o

I truly think that line of thinking makes a game stagnant and dull in the long run with huge amounts of potential fun wasted.

Players have more talent and creativity then the developers realize or fellow players realize.

They should be doing their best to implement as many additions or positive game changes as they can and suggestions should be acknowledged asap even if they cant be implemented..just say so! Its all good, lets try to think of another good idea then!

It somehow always comes down to ffxi>ffxiv or hardcore >casual, me>you , which is really quite sad.

IMO this game is good, there I said it, so please no need for any one to jump on me ..I LIKE IT!! lol whew....

I think there are "2 worst case scenario" types of players the white knight and the hater.

(I don't see the term white knight as an insult btw,and I don't mean it that way, its just a phrase lol I see the term as describing a player that sees no wrong in anything se does, even if SE really is wrong. Those who are willing to settle for what they are given instead of using ones creativity or imagination to help the game they defend to be even better, to be even more proud of.

I wouldn't say that's insulting at all, but..I don't not share that mindset)

Both the hater and the knight live at opposite ends of the scale, one blinded by the "privilege" to play a game that we..pay for, who usually are instantly are against any suggestion players make because "how dare you!" "How entitled!"

They cant see for some reason that a suggestion is as innocent as that...its a suggestion Oo... offered to possibly improve a game..add a layer of depth it may be lacking....errr .... not to point out fault or trying to ruin its success.

In fact they are made for the direct opposite of that.

Then there is the hater who is enraged 24/7 and thinks everything is crap, life is crap we all suck.. yo mama sucks too lol, YET oddly enough they stay in the game O.o...wut? and their only mission is to complain and cause negative drama.

One type makes a game boring, stagnant, and mindless, the other creates one of the most unpleasant and unproductive environments to be in, BOTH being detrimental to any game.

Most of us fall somewhere in between, leaning to one side or the other maybe,
but overall we are happy enough to be here, yet opened minded to change, and still capable to know that there are things done very "right" already!

Forums tend to attract more the extremists I think, which is a shame.

If any of us want change in our respective play styles, its time we start supporting each other and not only when it meets our personal agenda.

I am casual, and would prefer more engaging content that suits any casuals needs and likes, as I have suggested countless times already. BUT, that doesn't mean I don't want hardcore people to have fun and engaging content either...why wouldn't I want them to? The more happy ppl the healthier the game is

If the hardcore style needs more then se dam it...give them more to do and work towards please!! I am the furthest thing from hardcore but I can see how they could feel bored by now..it isn't a good thing at all.

Its time we stop "competing" for power, if we share it, without trying to rule the entire game one way or the other, we can achieve a lot more as a whole.

Casuals should be supporting the hardcore and equally the hardcore players should be supporting the content style we enjoy and not try to convert content into one or the other..its gotta be a mix of both to be the best, and the most accepted.

We are very good however at telling others to "stop complaining"..."dont like it...dont play"..."why are you still here?" all I can do is smh...shameful.

Give SE a bit of credit for being able to realize what is just a rant (that should be ignored, let it die btw) and what may actually add some depth to the game, that is not your job..its theirs.

I can only hope SE never settles for the "Its good enough" mentality. I hope this game lasts for years to come!

It can never be "good enough", nor should that ever be a point se reaches, not if they want to stand out, not if the want to be the best. (that may not be their goal, fair enough!)

Striving to be the best is a positive thing and something they could be very very proud of.

Can they ever fully please everyone? absolutely not !!!
Not expected, as many as possible though IS something to strive for.

Unfortunately we have 2 major roadblocks to overcome if we ever want to be part of what could be the richest and most engaging and enjoyable game possible, with a healthy mix of all play styles from the most casual to the most hardcore.

    1- SE limitations
    2- Each other

(ffxi vets can be just as toxic as wow players..sorry but i have seen the worst in both games....all games in fact, we all need to stop pointing fingers i think) just saying.

GW2 also doesn't have any quests apart from the "MSQ," hasn't had a new dungeon or "Trial" in over a year, and isn't getting raids until its first expansion over two years after launch. GW2 is a game with no idea what it wants to be after most of its defining staff left shortly after launch.

Also, FATEs are more akin to what public quests were like in Warhammer Online(RIP).

There is a lot of variety of content in this game its just people choosing not to do it. Casuals are the life blood of an MMO and there the one where most of the developer resources are focused on while hardcore players get the rest of the resources since they represent less than 10% of the game. Anyways for every hard core player that leaves they're replaced by 10 casual players.
My FC is nowhere near a "hardcore raiding" FC, and we have maybe 5 people on during peak times now.

Everyone's hit 60 and got bored.

This is how mine is too :/ and judging from looking at other people's FCs, most likely theirs too.
We had a bunch of people come back for HW, they got about 55-60, then quit again. We're midcore, we do raids but no where near super hardcore all the time raiding and we also only have about 4-5 on now. Looking at other FCs and my FC from experience, most FCs had 50+ on daily in 2.0, by 2.1 a majority of FCs were down to ~30 on, by 2.2 it was lower and by 2.3, most FCs barely had 10 on during peak hours, now in most FCs, I rarely even see 5 on at the most, even in those big 100+ member ones. That's saying something about the game. Theres also zero staying power, since the game encourages you to be solo and not make friends.

When I first started playing this game felt more like the WoW I remembered from 2004-2008, the one I enjoyed immensely.

The LESS they take from the abominations that were Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor, and the more they take from the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King eras, the better.

That game immensely dropped in fun level right around Cataclysm. I loved Cata at launch. Loved most of the dungeons added later, but the stupid long raid cycles and the gradual gutting of difficulty was it's downfall.

I'm warily looking at Legion; it looks to be more of the same bullshit and it's depressing. Where are all the MMOs I could lose myself in for 8 hours a day?
