doesn't matter. it was successful in NA, and continued to be successful over time. It also got... dun dun dun, good reviews.

CoP was its shining star. The story was epic, had TONS to do (was like 50times longer than this games entire mission set), and is considered to be one of the best MMO stories of all time. The zones were unique, the gear and jobs were cool, etc. Then you have ToAu which again, was EPIC. The zones were massive, well put together, and besieged was amazing. And then WoTG while just a rehash of past zones was amazing as well. Campaign was incredibly fun, the quests and missions were deeper than anything in this game, and the sense of exploration and journey you felt traveling through the war-torn past was awesome.

For story, immersion, and sense of adventure, no MMO has even come close to touching FFXI. Cept now cuz abyssea kinda killed everything lol.

Another thumbs up and wholehearted agreement with the OP. I've been starting threads about this. Maybe the readers of this one could also bump my latest, to see if we get some attention with a couple of threads going on simultaneously.

Click here to check my latest posted thread. In the first post of that one you'll find links to the earlier threads. Bump them all!

    Let's end EASY MODE!!!

Oh look someone figured it out. har har har. No one here has anything of value to say in this cesspool of moans and groans, and QQ. This is not a valid gameplay concept.

You can not just "reward" players all the time. There must be something to reward them FOR.

There is no sense of accomplishment in systems where rewards are handed out freely.
No one wants that in XIV, and they're not making a game like that. They're making a game where everyone has a fair shot at the content that doles out the rewards.

Darkhold, for example, is a fun experience. Easy to get to, easily repeatable, hard to beat. I know it isn't much of a challenge for an LS full of no life extortionists who have all classes at 50 -- thus have available whatever classes they need at the moment. But for us common folk, who only play enough to have one or two classes at 50, it takes coordination and planning.

There's no need for an XI system of "rewards" either. Spending an hour to get somewhere, to camp something for three hours and if you were lucky enough to get the claim you just had to wait through the no-challenge battle to hope the 5% drop rate favored you that day.

Is that the system you'd prefer? There wasn't a single challenge in all of XI. The hardcore only called themselves hardcore because they were able to put in 10+ hour every day. I'd much rather a performance-based reward system with all the arbitrary time sinks out of the way. If it takes my group 300 tries to get it right, well, at least we got to try instead of watching four hours go down the drain as a mob pops claimed.

Launch FFXIV -> Press "Win" button. -> The End.
    Now you're just being silly.

    ffxi was successful
    this wasn't
    point prooven
WTF kind of ridiculous logic is that? Seriously? FFXIV didn't have a failed launch because of teleporting, or because of "easy mode" issues the hyperbole slinging idiots around here like to throw around. It had a failed launch because there was next to no content, horrible lag problems, gigantic zones which were both empty and lacking in variety, and many more problems. Being able to piggyback on another person's teleport had nothing to do with it. Get some perspective aleady.

While I appreciate that you needed an excuse to bash on me and my shell, you could have addressed the issue itself instead of attacking me personally and people who have nothing to do with this conversation. So, with that said, lets talk about the issue instead. Ok?

Have you not heard of the phrase:

"It's about the journey, not the destination"?
Now, since you have a hard time understanding my intent, this is a metaphor, not a literal example. So don't quote it as "Mog says walking is better than teleporting" Ok?

The quote applies here with our game.
Results mean nothing if the journey is fruitless.

Grow a garden instead of buying it from the store.
Buy your 1st car instead of having daddy buy it for you.
Hike a mountain instead of driving up to see the view.
Walk your lazy a$$ to a crystal (just once!) to be able to teleport there in the future.

You might just find that you enjoy life a little more.

    And as for:
Launch FFXIV -> Press "Win" button. -> The End.
    This is called a joke.

Did you seriously miss the point I made of XI being in a crap state when it hit Japan? And how it came to NA about a year after the JP release? No crap it had good reviews back then since the NA market wasn't aware of how bad of a state it was in the initial launch.

Faur enough I suppose, although I MMOs weren't a dime a dozen back then like they are now.

Don't particularly understand why they turned off the requisite of having to touch the crystals your self.

Though i guess it was to combat the following situation.

Hey want to go on a raptor run around bolder downs?
