No, screw you, it's helpful, not lazy. We have to run giant terrains on our own ON FOOT, that's not 'worthwhile', that's a pain in the ass. Why walk when you can take a cab?

i agree, they should make it so u can't get ported till first time touching the crystals yourself. this hole get ported by people first time is very weaksauce. even having the maps right from the begining. they already kinda screwed the pooch on this one, they should change these 2 things as quick as possible so we can enjoy the new zones when they come out without it being this easy peasy stuff.

could of imagined the good times with parties and groups running into each other just by hard areas to get across trying to help each other cross to crystals an stuff. and the world would of felt way bigger learning them without a map to start off. give the first map after first leves to help new people maybe but that is all. let us earn it all.

but the first times an with the challenge of getting the maps... not this hole every time stuff some people are on. first time is enough to make the game world feel like u did something special and fun. after that it is tedium.

Going to have to TOTALLY agree.

Teleporting whenever I want and wherever I want is great... but do we need everything to be handed to us so easily? I for one think that walking DOES add to the difficulty of the game; increased time between locations makes it harder for people to reach places that are more suitable to grind/party. It might sound lame, but I think that an MMO (especially one with such pretty scenery) should force us to make the walks. Or at least make teleporting something only one class can do.. like in 11

Lol, this is getting rather silly. If you want to be "hardcore" and walk everywhere, feel free. Don't lump everyone else into this stupid idea, please. You may get a sense of accomplishment from walking everywhere, but there are others, such as myself, that would rather the "challenging content" come in the form of monster/ boss mechanics and not environment traversing. "Guys I just killed Ifrit!!!" "Yeah, well, I just walked from Ul'dah to BW!" Lol.

This is the biggest reason I have trouble sticking with FFXIV. In FFXI, you started out with nothing. All you could do is walk outside the city gates and kill rock eaters. Running to Jeuno for the first time and getting the chocobo license was fun, exciting and challenging, and also hooked me on XI for a long time. The first time I went to San D'Oria, I was lvl. 10, and just wanted to explore. I got lost along the way (no map, lol), nearly died, and eventually found a high-level who was kind enough to show me how to get there. I still remember the feeling of encountering new mobs, not knowing if they will aggro or not. After all, there was a real incentive to not die! Traveling was dangerous, difficult, time-consuming, exciting, and eventually routine, but going from one end of the world to the other always required a bit of planning and some thought, and maybe some time too.

For comparison, I started out in Gridania, and I don't even remember the first time I went to Uldah and Limsa. I think a friend ported me on the first day. Fun.

This post really makes me miss FFXI. In the end, I think it comes down to what developers and players expect to be part of "the game". Should traveling and exploring be part of the gameplay experience, or is it just a time-sink hurdle to be overcome? I think the same goes for leveling / grinding.

this right here, totally lol, from making way threw la theine, my first time finally finding rabao after going threw tunnel and then spending like hole day lost in the sands till i finally asked some dude killing mobs.. i was like 1min from entrance lol. i hate all running and time sinks but not for the first time it is awsome ... for people who think the exploring and learning zone and not dying from mobs wasn't cool in ffxi u is incorrect. ffxiv should move to this route but i think even though it kinda moving that way it's not gonna ever get there. but i can be wrong and hopefully the new zone to be seen totally surprise me.

I also agree with the above. Having to walk and learn the path to each location, avoiding aggro along the way, is a challenge that can be fun and rewarding that first trip. I was actually shocked to find out that I could simply ask any player to teleport me directly from my starter location to any tele hub in the game in my first few minutes of playing, without ever having stepped foot outside my starter city gates. I didn't realize that until later on, and I am actually glad about it. It was fun to wander around learning the terrain and seeing the different mobs, etc.

I do think that players should have to at least walk to the crystals the first time, and then after that always be able to port to them. I am fine with there not being any quest or level cap to unlock the crystals, and I am fine with teleporting being available to any player of any level on any class. But it should require at least a little effort to gain access the first time.
