no grinds in mmo's = shorter life span per player in game?

players only lasting a year or 2 in mmo's = game companies going lets just make them to last that long?

then we got tons of crappy mmo's like we do now that are all copy and paste or mmo's that feed u the same stuff over and over in them ...with a twist lol. right?

how many more failed mmo's will it take b4 they seriously go planned obsolescence on a mofo video game lol. might be way off or jumping the gun but ...ehhh i not play a mmo since ffxi for more then a year.

To me it looks like people are taking more time to argue then to explain what they want to say lol.

Now I haven't played FFXIV for any good amount of time... can't really run it lol and i'm picky so I refuse to lower the graphics lol but thats not the point. The point though is that they are implementing quest and storyline quests and more and more quests to do in order to level up with. I don't know if you have read the future update list and the letters but what I got from them is that they want to incorporate both leveling types. They are focusing on grinding at the moment cause thats what people are asking for(I would assume mostly the veteran FFXI players who like I kinda enjoy that system.)

Also like I said they are implementing new quests that you can do while leveling so its not a total bore. Like in FFXI, you could start doing different content the higher level you got, like Promyvion at lvl 30 ish. You are not forced to level level level. Pick a different class or level a craft. Also just be patient. I don't know if you noticed but the game has essentially gone back into beta lol so they still working out the kinks.

Very rarely do I ever spend an exorbant amount of time grinding to finish a single player FF. My grind time per FF play through is probably less than three hours total for the entire game. I explore, I find secret equipment, don't use walkthroughs -- that all adds to my overall character level and ability. I don't just sit there in one area until I can brute force my way past the next.
Ever played ff 1 2 3 4 5 tactics, tactics advance, tactics advance 2, 7 x x-2 etc? In for example x, you NEED 300 hours to take on dark aeon, but then you must be very fast. You whom use 1h on 9, il give you 500 to take magus sisters (zanmato "cheat" doesnt work)

Naked grinding = lazy development. Simple as that.

But having to do it from start to finish is not ok.

How about instead of feigning excitement for this let's get some quests that are worth completing. Not a quest that sends you to some obscure location to kill 3 mobs, then return for as much xp as 1 mob gave you. Hell, I'd rather sit in one spot and kill the same thing over and over again than do that, at least then i'm getting some real xp out of the same time investment.

For those of you about to tell me "This has been talked about, use the search feature." Don't really care if this has been discussed a million times before. You know how things get fixed? You keep bringing it up and talking about it.
For those of you about to say "troll attempt 2/10" congrats on lurking in forums and offering nothing but a stale joke that's been beaten into the ground.
Also, for the diehards: please stop telling people "stfu, it's a free game. If you don't want to play don't, it's free. GWAAAAHHHHhhh!" Well I've got news for you... might be shocking... you bought the game. I bought this game at launch. I've paid money for it, so stop yelling at people that are upset about wasting their money.
I havent read all the other posts since there are way too many to read, but maybe you should try World of Warcraft, it seems to be what your looking for in an MMO experience. And they even have a character race called troll, so you would be right at home

I don't think it's trolling at all. It's 2011. There are resources, past precedents that show that naked grinding is not popular in mainstream MMOs. Developers want more subscribers than less. Not a whole lot more than that needs to be said.

Now, if I wanted to troll, I'd tell you to be sure to worry about Y2K compliance and ask you if you're voting for Bush or Gore... if you were old enough to vote, that is.

    RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT 2012

    lololol, i'm not trolling.

ron paul says grinding is a part of mmo life, he will legalize pot so you can enjoy 16hrs straight grind and be very happy. /cheer /vote.

but either way every game has grinds, it is impossible to not add grinds, even if u don't grind it will still get repititious. they can make like 4 expansions, and on top of that like 100different mini expansions inbetween ...how many u think it will be before u get the feeling u done this before. a shooter is a shooter, difference is the maps for most part. if they remove the grind completly and just start u at max for endgames it will still all be repetitious. heck u can watch a tv show and in first season u'll see the 1-2 only special effects they will ever use in the show, no matter how long the show airs lol.

i think most like it without the grind cause that is the part they push threw then they are on easy street log in only from there schedule twice a week or 4times a week same time for a event and done. u can pay 20bucks for like gamefly service and beat a diff game every week if you dont' want to grind, i'd happily pay like 40-60bucks a month for a mmo that is fresh and has pretty much a new game added to it every month or 2.

First, I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Second, no, people don't want to push through the hard part, because grinding isn't difficult nor is it engaging. Don't give me your skill chain and exp chain bs, games have had far more interactive combat that that.

"Every game has grind" people say this, they don't even know what it means. There is a difference between sitting in front of Bric-A-Brac's and crafting 1000 ingots vs. crafting various arms and armor for quests, tasks, whatever you want for an npc, faction, whatever you want.

no there is not a difference in it, u'r still repeating the quests over and over, and if your real thought process is, quests instead of grind will then equal doing 200hrs instead of 400hours then u just don't get that the leveling process in ffxi was actually important and they trying to keep it that way. yeah they already made it easier then ffxi but they not trying to get you to max level in a week.

i can get from 1-max level craft in like 3days in warhammer ...less if i find all the cheap mats i need quick enough. i can also go from rank 1-max class in few weeks easy, this i don't think is what ffxiv is looking for. also.

grinding can be ifficult and it can be engaging, ffxi was very engaging for a long time with it, then they started making it way easier to grind threw, rather then keep it as engaging and give less of a slop or something in exp. hell every mob can be very hard if they tried to, that still ain't the point either. the point is time playing outside of endgame cause some feel it to be the most important part. and that is just some i'm talking about, not all. obviously tons of reason from everyone, we all gotta come up with excuses to not like something these days.

also u don't understand what i'm saying cause u didn't even read the few posts above u, that is why u didn't understand also there are lots of reasons in this thread for and against ...against are all the same like 2 thoughts the hole 13pages. i want i want, don't need grind, ...then it's just a offline solo game, go play one. grind is in all mmo's it's just how long u need to do it that is the problem and like i said above i'd happily pay 60bucks a month for a mmo with no grinds and new content like a fresh vid game, but till they offer that (and u willing to pay?) then it will start to get repetitious. hell these days they making us pay for mini expansions and cosmetics and dlc's on top of it all, how much meat around the grind u think they will give u anyway?
