Only one thing I'd like to add here. I paid 30 bucks for the "game" and have to pay close to 50 for the expansion. If I pay 30 for 16 gigs of content seems legit. Then after pay 50 for 3/4 gigs o.o idk seems disproportionate to me but whatever.

Not sure if its been mentioned yet in the 8 pages (probably has) but the complaints I have read have more to do with the fact they didnt really address anything from the original. Particularly the overabundance of boring repetitive fetch quests. Honestly the only improvement ive seen with HW is that the storyline better. Or rather, more consistently entertaining. They added flight, but other than that not much has changed, improved, or been fixed.
OK. What kind of quest would you like to see?Not sure if its been mentioned yet in the 8 pages (probably has) but the complaints I have read have more to do with the fact they didnt really address anything from the original. Do you find it too simple? Or is the lack of player agency the problem?
I'm going to have to agree with this guy expansions add a whole lot of new stuff.
But I'm also going to have to agree with the critics that there isn't really much different my main problem is again instrd of making a big fun raid they again separated it into sections because of duty finder I'm tired of every sort of group content being a one path dungeon run or just a room with a boss and I'm beginning to think that duty finder will be the death of this game. And I'm also going to have to agree with others that the gear progression is awfull look at it once we hit 60 the item level for stuff jumped from 170-210 that's 50 item levels in just under a month. And again I see the reason to this is because of duty finder there's no gear choice besides us tanks since we need to use strength gear as well as vitality and nothing unique this was a chance for them to go a different way and if it didn't work so what they could have adjusted it to go bk to the same way.
And again duty finder....... It has to be balanced enough so that any job combination can clear it we need bigger better more complicated dungeons that are not a straight path to the final boss.
Open world content. Boring there isn't really any and for those who are going to say hunts are good open world content stop fooling your selves their zerg fests they die with in a min and the big linkshells that orginizes them just run around day after day not fun for me but to each their own.
Also Yoshi p said that there'd be not one or 3 but many new dungeons in the expansion I don't really consider the new leveling dungeons to be all that new since we don't have a reason to go back to them unless wer leveling something and only 2 expert dungeons at level 60. its not like we can do the new dungeons unscynced so they could at lest put tomestones in the new level 51-59 dungeons if the persons in them as a level 60 job.
Don't get me wrong I like the game but I still feel that their playing it too safe I can't blame 1.0 hurt SE very badly so I can't blame them playing safe but the fact that we have a expansion means the game is doing well I agree but they could have taken risks with the dungeons and open world content.
I here by dub my post Duty Finder Limitations.
Moogles. Moogles are the epitome of the problem with quests. In the end, they show the lack of variety in side quests the game has. Run here, kill that, talk to this person, run back, run across the map and fetch this item, run back again, run out yet again and search this big area for one Moogle/item), run back for the third time.
One game that had a great side quest system was The Secret World. Regular missions were complimented with stealth and investigation missions (my personal favorites). There's a ton of variety and when a mission is completed, you can turn it in from the field. As much as I love FFXIV, the quest system is definitely dated.

Wait till they add moogle beast tribe quests.......
What these series of posts tell me more is that peoples expectaions are so low ( ie actually beliveing a new expansion shouldnt innovate ) that they actually defend the concept of it. No one is asking for reinvention of the wheel but seriously a new type of content for level 60 needs to be added that is targeted at end game. Also while i dont pvp at all, GC restictions are pants on head retarded.
Dont look at me, im just reiterating what I read but I do see where they are coming from.
Lets take Warcraft for example. They at least try to stir the pot a little with their game when expansions come out. For TBC they made the instances quicker, lowered the head counts for raids, attempted to improve WPvP with map objectives. These were all complaints players had (more or less) of vanilla WoW. What has FFXIV improved upon from player feedback? PvP is still non-existent because of GC's, instances are just as long and gated behind MSQ's, cant go in alone to farm gear, there are still tomes which take forever to get, personal housing is still an extremely limited mess, inventory problems could only have gotten worse... I mean I still have to dismiss my chocobo before queueing up for a dungeon. They couldnt even address that?!?!
You may not agree with everything Blizzard has done with their game, hell its bitten them on the ass sometimes (*cough* flight *cough*), but at least they put some effort into addressing issues players have had with their expansions.
I think it's why I always go back to Eve online eventually. It's slow, tedious, grindy, full of assholes, but I make my own story (and I don't end up grinding the same few dungeons for gearCan't be helped really. Players will always consume content faster than developers can create it.
This is partly why I have advocated having sandbox elements in MMOs.
In sandboxes, the playground doesn't change to entertain. Playing with others is where the fun comes from - gameplay ideally suited to MMOs.
With sandboxes, players write the story..)
As many things as Blizzard addresses, there are just as many that don't get addressed because "they disagree".Dont look at me, im just reiterating what I read but I do see where they are coming from.
