Because relying on other people to supply you with mats is a bad investment time wise, because real life stuff can and will happen leading to delays and potential loss of supply. This isn't a job so I do not want to have to rely on other people to meet a quota just so I can do what I want to do for the week.
And only the guy at the top makes any real profit while everyone below is just a factory worker adding one piece of the puzzle for minimum wage and it's just boring and they don't actually get to make anything themselves, you are also asking other crafters to slow their own progression to buy these mats.
Also this punishes the crafters who are the only ones in their FC because they will have no other crafters to "support" them. The only way this system gets better is if DoW/M can earn scripts without crafting, assuming that these mats will not be available any other way.
Well I'm the only one who is interested in crafting. Rest of my group is only interested in playing DoW/DoM classes so I'm pretty fucked now right?
This new system is for 24/7 gamers imo but whats with people with full time jobs and families who are interested in crafting?

This just in, there are people playing the game that aren't in your FC. Branch out.
edit: After reading more replies I see that is, in fact, due to greed and not at all about the "it is going to take us sooooo long to gear" that people are hiding behind. Carry on then.

Lol at these people. Just buy the mats the you need and sell the mats that you produce. That's the primary goal of the new system. It doesn't allow an individual to dominate the market easily.
Thats not rly what I'm interested in. Its stupid to say how people have to play. Everyone should play with his own "I have fun playing this game" way and should be able to reach every goal

Except that it does. Because those with all the gil can ignore the entire system, as the crafted versions are better, so they don't even need to waste scripts on gear and they can buy any extra mats they want, and anyone who has the time to be the top of the top already has alts in place since the specialist system was announced.

You can play how you want, however, you will never (and should never) be able to attain every goal in the game as a solo player.
Why not?
No, I'm actually serious there. Why shouldn't you be able to do all the crafting you want by yourself? Why should you be forced into a crafting guild as an "apprentice" and have to "pay your dues" gearing up the people who joined before you (small hyperbole -- that's one of the outcomes I can see of this particular mess)? Why should you have to walk away from the group you really enjoy working with because you're the only crafter? Or just one of the only few (not enough to support the new system).
Or, put another way, why should the only people who do well in this system be the ones who have 100million or more gil to get the drop on everyone else? Some of us are rather more modest in wealth AND not all that fond of dealing with large numbers of people. Are we now supposed to be irrelevant?
I know this is a mp game and there are things you cant do solo. But crafting was always something I was able to manage solo and I had a lot of dun with it. But know its like SE kicked my ass and its hard to have fun playing crafters the way I preferd and loved.
I wouldnt have any problems with specializing on a few crafters if I wouldnt need always mats from other classes. Thats just my opinion.
