"They've already stated in Live Letters multiple months prior to the release of Heavensward that they want to put an end to omnicrafting and want people to specialize"

Rly? So why do I need mats from almost every other crafter class to craft something with my Leatherworker for example???

Because you're supposed to communicate with other specialists to get things? I'm quite sure I mentioned that before already.

    @Aeyis

You seem to have missed my point what I meant with a group effort. Work as a group to make 1 Omnicrafter - that Omni will then make crafts for the people that helped him later on - simple.
22.3 weeks of red scrips, divide that by 2 for every person helping you get there.
I am well aware of what 2* crafts need, in fact I already have a complete shopping list for all 61 items and have nearly every currently obtainable item in HQ on my own, I get a couple of each HQ Aethersand every day (Seaborne is rather straight forward to get.)
I know that the scrips materials will also seemingly need favors gatherings to be obtained and I've made agreements with 2 Botanists and 2 Miners that I know to help me get the
regional folklore items as well as the favours items once they hit. My static/FC pitches in on the funding for everything and I'm positive once new battle gear/accessories/vanity stuff hits in future patches that I'll be prepared in time. - Touché about saying I don't know what I'm talking about buddy. :^)

Basically the only class that you can actually, reliably "specialize" in is Cul.
Cul makes all of its own ingredients, and produces items which will always be in demand by all raiders. And (for the time being) is not severely gated behind Red scrips, though partly gated behind Blue for some recipes.

    So lets recap...
    - Crafting to produce endgame worthy equipment: Gone, endgame gear is 30 ilvls higher, no contest.
    - Crafting to produce glamour: Mostly gone, the new items are reskins of lvl 60 and 1 star gear, no point. The only glamour that is valuable is lvl 1 stuff which requires multiple rare map drops, like the Thavnarian items.
    - Crafting to produce gear for leveling combat classes: Meh, so-so. It is a slight upgrade for the even levels, and is replaced at odd levels. Doing the side quests gets you a set of HQ gear for a DoW and DoM for every even level, so 2 classes are set. After that you can reasonably stockpile dungeon drops for the next class you plan to level and skip the even level gear altogether, with minimal performance loss.

This leaves us with 2 venues:
    - Crafting to produce gear for other Crafters and Gatherers: Well this has always been the case. Crafting and Gathering are something of a self-sustained economy (once you factor in retainers to gather mob drops). In fact the only way to get HQ crafting and gathering gear is from crafters, who can only obtain the items to make said gear from gatherers. But lets be honest thats... not much of an endgame is it?
    - Crafting to produce consumables: Now this is the Tried and True contribution of Crafters and Gatherers to the world of Endgame Content. Make food and potions for raiders who want and edge to beat raid content. Crafters are the only sources of decent food (Draconic Pots can drop off maps), and food will almost always be in demand... well, until every raider is geared to the teeth and then some.

Interact with other people in an MMO? Surely you jest.

You can either gear or use the mats to make 2/3 items a week to sell. (If you want to make the robes you could get mats for 1.5 attempts with the weekly limit...)

You probably need the gear to have a decent chance of HQ the gear.

So we are looking at Months before most crafters can make i180 DoW/DoM armour, How relivant do you think this i180 gear will be to HC raiders by this time?

With how gated these mats appear to be, the prices for this gear would be insane, far higher than people are going to be willing to pay for a minor upgrade.

There are many "QQ" threads for a very good reason.

Hahaha sorry man but you kinda deflate your argument with your post here. "You guys are overreacting! All you need is 4 pocket geared gatherers and an FC backing you!"

The funny thing is Aeyis didn't even mention the favor system which appears to be where the extra mats (blue ooids ect.), in addition to the 50 red crafter scrip tokens, needed to purchase the 2 star mats come from. If it is the favor system, crafters will either have to forego the gear progression of their gathering classes to spend their gathering red scrips on favors or they'll have to hope other gatherers will. Since gathering gear no longer appears to be craftable, any gatherers who do spend their red scrips on crafting mats are going to charge a premium. Just another potential hurdle in crafting your own gear to get geared faster.

    This thread hurts to read.

Really, i knew people will be ok with this (as there is someone ok with near everything...) but this is too much. The best part is the "SE warned that they will be geting rid of omnicrafting".

Omnicrafting main resource is TIME, and TIME is what omnicrafters since the dawn of time (2.0) have always had more than anyone else. This changes make ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against omni-crafters. Most of them are well beyond reasonable gil amounts of gil than any average player can dream to have, most of them will even have some alt-character geared and ready to farm and trade in even more red scrip materials. Because time is their resource, and turn a grind of weeks (what it took to be omnicrafter in 2.4) will now just take a few months. Their expenses on materials and materias will be just "bumps" on their finances.

While, any new player who might be returning to crafting, want to give it a try, or is just a self-suficient crafter that crafts for himself, is pretty much screwed by this.

So yeah, all of this is pretty much fine, let SE kill omnicrafting by not killing it and making it harder for new crafters to enter the scene. Yeah, thats pretty fine... Just happens its not.

Honest question: Why is it completely unreasonable to expect groups of crafters to work together to accomplish a goal?

Selfishness, perhaps? They understandably want to be the first to get geared, and are possibly afraid that they'll be gypped if they give their stuff up so someone in that that someone won't return the favor after getting geared.

I suppose that is true.. but as for the worried part... This is not going to be the last set of gear ever released, if someone rips you off.. jot their name down and make sure your other crafter buddies do as well. Then the next time he tries to make a trade of x for y item it will have (hopefully) gotten around that this person is a jerk and he will have a hard time finding someone to make a reasonable trade.
