Esoterics is all obtained with unrelated content, how is roulette related to any of that gear?

Esoterics is viewed as nonraid gear, so it makes sense it's obtained through the roulette. However the item to upgrade it is obtained through the raid. Since you don't obtain esoteric through the raid this makes the process of getting the gear pointless, as we obtain raid gear in the process.

Yep. You get upgrades to esoterics as well as gear that is at least as good as upgraded esoterics. Why not maybe make savage gear 220 and give the eosterics upgrade to stuff somewhere between story and savage. like the new 24-man

the process of getting which gear pointless? most raid groups that are not Lucrezia are going to need Eso weapons to pass DPS checks in Savage and they are going to need upgraded Eso gear + Savage gear to clear A4S.
