In no other mmo does anyone ever say "watch a video" in regards to running dungeons/raids. Why is that so common here?

That's not really the point I was making.
An explanation from players isn't going to help you any more than a video if said video is well made.
I don't personally like to go into a duty blind, though some people seem to enjoy it. That's fine.
If you want to go in blind and learn from trial and error, that's one thing. But not wanting to do that and asking people how fights work is truly pointless. If you want to know how a fight works, watch a video. Don't make people waste their time explaining when you could have watched a video. If you want to go in blind, well, just go in blind without asking about mechanics.
The OP obviously wasn't there for a blind run, so why ask people what to do when he could have watched a video beforehand without making them waste their time?
(Also, please note, I still do not approve of the overreaction the players had against the OP)
Well it is a multiplayer game and you aren't playing by yourself. You say you are new and want an explanation on the fight from the people who beat it before. The thing is you could get that info yourself by watching a video or reading a guide. If you wanted the most smoothest run possible then you should of just watched a video or read a guide instead of relying on people to tell you what to do there are a lot of people who beat stuff before that don't want to take the time to explain every little thing.
But even in the other games that I've come from. The better players still gave a run down of each boss. I can understand reading a guide on some hardcore 24+ player raid, but let's be honest FFXIV will never have anything that hard.
By other MMORPG do you mean Wow, Tera, Swtor, FFXI. Then yes its common practice, people where making and using guides for fights long before A realm reborn
never mind the MMORPG there are guides for normal many genre of games PC and console, they are just not optional because you are the only one playing, in most cases.
One alternative would be to queue into Japanese groups if your latency allows. More likely not getting into an elitist and toxic group if you are comfortable in a japanese group. Just make sure to quickly read up the fight mechanics at least.

If those who are 'vets' get tired of explaining something, I hate to see how miserable they are IRL.
It still helps if people explain one important mechanic regardless.
/p Phase 1: OT grabs orbs. DPS can grab one (but be weary of RNG beam attack)
/p Phase 2: 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C. Unmarked DPS = Quarantined add (if Quarantined, <se.1> to let player know). Don't move if you have three tethers on you.
/p Phase 3: Healers stay away from party when you have Judgement Nisi debuff. Focus heals on tank after Discoid is cast.
Have that macro'd and you're set :T
