I find it funny how THESE specific one time only items seem to be off limit to the masses, but then you see threads pop up supporting one time event items to go straight to the cash shop, like the lightning stuff, and the other events like DQ and the like. Nice double standards. If we weren't there for the 1.x items, and that's your reasoning, then you have no right to the post 2.x items you missed. One time only, or limited time only should mean just that. If people end up getting the latter, the other should be up for grabs. Just my two cents.
Edit: Just for clarification, I don't think either should be obtainable. But if one goes, they both should go.

kinda surprised I had to use this again... I'm not even a legacy player, but OP...

I'm not a legacy player. (Did play 1.0 but didn't stick with it.) I don't think they should even add it to cash shop, the whole point of legacy player bonuses is that they are a thank you to the players who supported the game from the start.
I also think that special event items should stay exclusive too, gives you something you can feel proud of owning if you made the event. Yeah shame for people who didn't get them but that's how it goes~
~Quit moping, get hoping~
I don't know about the Legacy Goobue mount
But for all others things, they can just offer us a reskinned version of legacy-only items? That way they'll have the best of both worlds: legacy will have their version + the slightly reskinned one too, while non-legacy will only get that reskinned version. The Goobue mount is probably the best example I can think of.
Did you play in the last few weeks of 1.0? It wasn't an empty shell. The game had to be remade because it's foundation was built on a sinkhole (servers are the sinkhole if you didn't get the metaphor). The combat, job system, stat system, and dungeons/trials had plenty of life to base a game around and were more complex than what we currently have in a lot of ways. They decided to take it in a more traditional approach because of the whole "tried and true" mentality. They had no room to take risks with the amount of support they lost. ARR is a success, no doubt about that. But 1.23 could have been fleshed out on new servers and been just as much fun.But...it was garbage. If it wasn't then we would be playing that version of XIV and SE wouldn't have to waste all this money on reworking a poorly executed idea from the start. Just because the guy that takes over happens to make a few parts of memorable content doesn't mean the game wasn't an empty, terrible shell.
You can hand over the nostalgia goggles now...
Legacy members are not getting any new privilege. please don't make our existed privileges worthless. They already gave another Goobbue mount to everyone. just be happy with that.
As a legacy player I'm glad 1.x is dead an never coming back. Even in 1.23 it was not fun to play. It was slow, plodding and terrible. I will glady take a simplified battle system that's actually fun, over the clunkiest trainwreck that took forever that was 1.anything. Go look up the fight with nael van darnus at the end of 1.23. The fight took 20 minutes (which should tell you something is wrong right there) and for like 99% of the fight it's just people stacked on top of each other slowly casting weaponskills. Boy howdy, what fun that was! It was a bad game, it was always a bad game. It got less bad as it went along but it never stopped being a bad game. Now it's dead and it's never coming back. Good riddance.
Tell you what... Let's do the following:
- Allow players to buy "Legacy" status via the Cash Shop.
- Allow players to purchase the Goobbue mount from the Cash Shop.
- Allow players to purchase the Legacy Chocobo mount from the Cash Shop.
- Allow players to purchase the Mark of the Twelve (Legacy Tattoo) from the Cash Shop.
And while we're at it, for an additional fee, you can also upgrade your account so you get the same discounted fee as players who continued to support the game got! That's right, even you, the guy who decided the game was utter crap and came back later, can look and have all the perks of the other guy standing in the corner there who kept on paying and supported the game!
Look, back in version 1 they allowed players a short time of free access before the servers shut down to get your own goobbue mount from the Wandering Minstrel. If you had an account in good standing you could have logged in during that brief period of time and got the mount for yourself. People got this, the Legacy tattoo, the status, the bird, and the discount all for supporting the game when SE needed the funding to revive a game that was deemed by most as an utter failure. Now I get some people couldn't afford it, maybe they had real life problems, something else hindered them from supporting the game like they wanted to. Unfortunately it's too late to get those rewards, the incentives to keep paying for a game that may have ultimately tanked if A Realm Reborn was a failure as well.
The cash shop is a good way to support the game and get old items that were exclusive to players of the original game before the reboot. Things like the Moonlet, clothes, helmets, things like that. But putting in items like mounts that were given to players as a thank you for showing support when the developers needed us the most is the wrong way to go about doing it.

I think we're getting some of these items mixed together. I agree that if other one-time items make a comeback or are put on sale in the shop, then the goobbue should be included. That mount wasn't part of the Legacy campaign, it was simply a one-time event during 1.0's final year. You could technically have subbed for only 1-2 months in 2012, gotten the Goobbue, and then unsubbed, therefore not qualifying for Legacy status. You could argue it was made available by the same team and during the same time period, etc, but emotional connections aside, it's hardly any different than the Lightning Strikes campaign.
The Legacy Chocobo, on the other hand, was part of the Legacy campaign, a status that persists to this day. The campaign was a way of thanks for those who were supporting ARR by subbing to FFXIV before it even went down for the transition to 2.0/ARR, not a celebration of a new game in the same franchise coming out. It was a "Thank you", not a "Hooray!". The Tattoo is literally exclusive only to characters that were transferred off of 1.0's servers, not part of the Legacy Campaign. Create a new character, no tattoo, Legacy member or not.
So, Goobbue? Whatevs, sure, throw it in the cash shop along with the Lightning stuff. But it most certainly is not in the same category as the tattoo or the Legacy chocobo.
