References in Heavensward

"Prey Online", the world FATE in Azys Lla is, I think, a reference to Sony's Play Online feature for the PS2.

Nice catch, but a slight clarification is needed - PlayOnline is actually owned and operated by SE, not Sony (they originally developed it as the network/portal for all their planned online games, starting with FFXI). It didn't work as well as they'd hoped though and nowadays is only used to access FFXI. But that is definitely a POL reference.

Another SE reference - the Deepeyes enemy in Coerthas Western Highlands is obviously a reference to the name of Gray's military unit in the FF film FF The Spirits Within.

More film and book title references:

The main story quest 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' is obviously taken from the novel and film of the same name.

The name of the FATE in Western Coerthas 'The Polar Express' is again clearly taken from the title of the children's book and film.

A more obscure reference is the name of the achievement 'Lucky Number 7' (for completing the 'Divine Intervention' main scenario quest) - this is possibly a play on the title of the film Lucky Number Slevin.

there was a sidequest i did in the churning mists, i had to slay 3 or 4 mist biasts i think, to get a Drake tail item. the item description of the Drake tail said something like, it might be just a Drake tail but it's the best you've ever had. referencing a song

Some people are really in denial about the enormous amount of Game of Thrones references, probably because they haven't watched it, and fanboy over FF14 so much that they refuse to believe it copies so much.

GoT was a book series long before it was a television show, and the fact that it's got a television show is the *only* reason most of you people even know it exists.

My favorite so far is the FATE in Azys Lla, "Do Spinners Dream of Electric Rooks?". A refernence to Phillip K Dick's classic sci-fi story, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?". The enemy you fight is even called Spinner-Rick after the main character, Rick Deckard.

During the lv 60 bard quest in the solo instanced fight you do there is a Futurama reference. :3

One of the npcs says to the boss (siren clone) "Your music is bad and you should feel bad." Referencing Zoidberg.
