Or maybe it's just that it means "always higher" so it fits nicely Heavensward.
Aetherochemical Research Facility, Enforcement Droid 210 - reference to Robocop's ED 209; and dont forget the DBZ-like fusion the bosses do.

Nope, ED-209 from Robocop is short for Enforcement Droid 209 http://robocop.wikia.com/wiki/Enforc...oid_Series_209, so the Enforcement Droid 210 in Aetherochemical Research Facility is definitely a Robocop reference; they even kinda look alike.

The Armorer 55 quest have references to the movie Barbarella.

Look familiar?
It can be both, you know. Model based on an older enemy, name/designation based on a Robocop naming scheme. Why not?

He's actually right in some ways. while what he says is not so much a "Reference" as it is a reusing of an asset from an earlier game (FFXIV does this a lot, most enemies in XIV come from some other FF title, which I'm not complaining its nice.). Its clearly homage/reference to both!Nope, ED-209 from Robocop is short for Enforcement Droid 209 http://robocop.wikia.com/wiki/Enforc...oid_Series_209, so the Enforcement Droid 210 in Aetherochemical Research Facility is definitely a Robocop reference; they even kinda look alike.
Well in his defense he said "Its also a reference to FF1", not that It was not a reference to Robocop as well.

My boyfriend pointed this out to me last night, but there is a very subtle but effective reference to real-world history in Coerthas Western Highlands - in the north-eastern corner of the map (the frozen lake at Lancegate), there is a ship frozen in the ice of an unusual design not seen anywhere else in Eorzea (a kind of paddlewheel steamer), called the 'North Star'. Not really strange, except if you stand near it's bow you then notice it was bearing straight towards a giant rocky spire jutting out of the lake when the lake froze over (which has the appearance in the blizzard of an iceberg). This obviously is a reference to the famous ill-fated Titanic which, naturally hit an iceberg on it's maiden voyage and sank - the Titanic was owned by the North Star Line.
Coincidence? Maybe, but I like to think it's a reference to the Titanic disaster.
EDIT: and doh! I think I really need to check my information - the shipping company that owned Titanic was the White Star Line, not the North Star Line. Still, the ship in the ice in Coerthas Western Highlands does still seem to be a subtle reference to Titanic anyway.![]()
