It bares a remarkable resemblance to the "Naraka" mobs in FFXI.
    https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Category:Naraka

Its not superbly similar but you can see the similarities... also a lot of its dancin/blademoving is similar to the TP moves they use in XI...

A few I found in FATEs....
"Tarantula Hawk, Pro Stinger" - Tony Hawk, Pro Skater.
"Feed Me, See More" - "Feed me Seymour".
"Wild Wilde Death" - Wild Wild West (could be a reference to many a things including just the phrase itself)

A line from Cid, on the road to the Aery -

"You're going to need a smaller boat."

    Reverse "Jaws" reference, possibly.

One of the brooms in Matoya's cave has a backwards phrase that turns out to be "Let's sweeping love." Didn't take SE for a South Park fan.

In Churning Mist, when Estinien says the moogle refered to him as "Mog". Obvious reference to the FFVI playable character of the same name.

The Gestahl minion is in itself a reference to an old joke, where the Emperor Gestahl sprite, in VI again, looked like a dog.

Going through this thread...A lot of people seem really intent on trying to connect things to GoT. >w>

As a followup to an above poster, one moogle says something like "a hero from our past named Mog, used leaping attacks and wielded a spear"

    Definitely an ff6 reference.

-Also 12 knights + thordan and their weird helmets look exactly like Knights of the round from ff7.
-Vault=Anor Londo...one of the bosses even looks like Ornstein
-Floating Continent = FF III and FF6
    -Warring Triad from FF6
-Churning Mista resembles land of forbidden gravity from legend of dragoon
-Dragon's life energy coming from their eyes is reminiscent also from legend of dragon. In that game, gems shaped like dragon eyes called "dragon souls" allowed humans to become dragon knights

Their attacks even go off in the correct order, just like the summon.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

The Bandersnatch in xiv is a reference to a reference.

Not sure if this has been said already but one of the MCH job quests is named 'Rage against the machinists'. I found it rather funny :3

Some people are really in denial about the enormous amount of Game of Thrones references, probably because they haven't watched it, and fanboy over FF14 so much that they refuse to believe it copies so much. The trial by combat for example is obviously not taken from a historic context, but directly from GoT, since it invokes phrases used specifically in relation to trials by combat in GoT and only in GoT ("in the eyes of gods and men")

Copypaste from a thread I made about it before:

(Dusk Vigil is) literally, unironically the Night's Watch. Quest name is a direct reference (And All the Nights to Come), they copy the oath (We are the X on the wall), and the Lord Commander (note the title) has turned into an ice zombie... just like the Night's King. And then the boss comes along, and one of its attacks is called The Winds of Winter. Yeeeeeeeah....

They are literally called the Primal "Knights of the Round" throughout the game in the Japanese version.
