References in Heavensward

I can tell we have a lot of youngin's among us.

I can guarantee that over half the references you THINK are from GoT are not. GoT is incredibly cliche, to be frank. Mr. Martin is, unfortunately, not very creative when it comes to tropes. What he IS good at is turning tropes on their head and doing things you wouldn't expect.

GoT is becoming the WoW of the fantasy genre, unfortunately. Everyone is beginning to credit GoT for things that were done long before it existed, much like WoW is credited for things that existed in EQ and Ultima long before it.

If films are part of pop culture, then Heavensward gives a nod to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's film "Castle in the Sky" for inspiration:
