How is BLM in new expansion?

A clear is a clear. Why does it matter if a group could kill something faster if they had X job instead of Y?

It really doesn't matter, honestly. The only time that such minuscule differences in DPS matter are when you're doing content with the absolute minimum amount of gear possible, which is usually something only world progression groups do. Beyond that, it's less about about the damage a class can deal and more about not playing with people who don't know their classes.

Groups with summoner in the party instead of blm has cleared Final coil whitin 2 weeks of release. That 30 dps sure did wipe them hard did it?

The second group of DnT had a DRG and SMN and cleared on 3rd week. Didn't stop them to clear FCoB but they would have done it first/second week with the better jobs (Monk/BLM) It is fair to assume no matter the group comp your bring you'll be able to clear content. But not picking the better jobs makes it harder and longer to clear which contradicts the definition of progression. SUmmoner has an overwhelming edge over Black Mage right now.

Fact is, if you can't pick up BLM and can't play it effectively, then switching to SMN isnt going to help you. If you are running a static and your current BLM isn't pulling adequate numbers, you need to replace the player, not the job. Don't discount a BLM from your group because you are under the impression they are weak and ineffective and summoner is better. You just need to find a player who can play the job effectively which is absolutely 100% completely doable

You are talking to most Black Mages that have done 570+ DPS in T11 pre-echo and are telling you the feel gimped because mechanics screw them more. Unless it's a 100% turret fight for BLM, this job will lack behind. The only reason why Summoner was behind BLM in FCoB was mana issues. We want balance and 2.5 like Sleight said was the closest we ever got. Personally, I am not saying I can't Alexander Savage as BLM. I'm just saying my group is pretty hardcore and they'll want the quickest clear and so am I so my options as their caster is to pick the most viable job. This is about our pride (At least for me it's my pride to be able to contribute as much as possible for my group) that leads me to go Summoner. I went Summoner for Savage T7 when my group asked, I did not question why or argued with them.

On this, my memories are fuzzy a bit but when Monk got buffed. Didn't they increase the time on Grease Lightning and increase the timer of Astral Fire + Umbral Ice could be a great help for us. I don't want more potency, jsut a way to make the rotation more viable with mechanics.

No GL3 duration buff but there was a Twin Snakes increase so you could rotate between it and True Strike easily, along with positionals/potency changes.

My problem is more with enjoyment and that's separate from dps numbers. When Blm works, it works well. I find fitting in Fire 1s to be annoying, maintenance buffs are never fun. Whats worse is its a buff with no leeway. And that's the problem for me. The class is way different in feel now. I loved the old blm, and while I am warming to the new one, it isn't the same class I loved. I think that's a valid complaint. Maybe this makes me an idiot who isn't good at the game. Fine whatever. But I enjoyed black mage. Monkmage is...frustrating to play, and that's not a good thing in a GAME.

Especially given that 2x F4's + 1 F1 is all you can fit in one AF timer currently. So if you have to move, you've got to drop one of the F4s lest your AF drop at a minimum... there's zero margin for error there now.

I can understand that completely. I actually find the fun in figuring out how to perfect this version of BLM. Everytime I run any fight again, I try new things, learn tricks, utilize my other tools in different ways and it's developed me being able to out dps most melee with similar gear. Not saying these are top-tier melee, but still. I find that fun. I also take a lot of pride and if my static asked me to switch to SMN, I would. They won't ask thogh because they trust I can do the job just the same on BLM and it's the job I prefer.
