No, I'm not saying that lag has nothing to do with it. I'm saying that the physical locations of the servers has nothing to with it. That's not what's causing the lag. I guess you never touched upon telecommunications?
... associates degree... still learning... but the signal travels over the network through locations to get to its destination, these are called hops, the more hops usually means more time to send and receive, though the hops could also be shorter or longer depending on the media used, fiber wire being quicker than lets say satellite. ocean vs land wouldn't matter due to much due to submarine communication cables.

I see! Associates in Science? It's never a good idea to pretend you know what you're talking about when you don't. Again, the physical location of the servers is not what's causing this issue. You did watch the video Cel posted yes? You do realize that the two computers are not only in the same country, but in the same room? That's a clue.

I'm sorry but I fully disagree with you, Seo ,for this problem. The delay that could be caused by physical location is in magnitude soooo much smaller, it's negligible.

My thought is that the server checks character position less frequently than other games to ease serer load.

    Thats all.
    (NOT a latency issue)

The server knows where all players and monsters are at any given time, but what everyone is seeing is a character running in a straight line between their last received position and their current position.

To fix this, they would simply need to increase the frequency at which player positioning is updated.

Other players might still see people running a bit behind their actual position, but it would be closer to "actual" position. And as in the OP's video appear more as running in a "Circle" than a "triangle".

I want a rep to post in this thread and bring this to the attention of the devs because this is something that is very important to the future of this game.

This same thing happens in FFXI (along with the running through the ceiling glitch) but not nearly to the same extent as in this game.
But don't listen to me, this B.S. in Comp Sci is just for show.

Just everyone imagine how bad this problem will be when they implement jumping in the game.

There have been a lot of threads on this, but none of them have been so accurately and distinctly put. Well done. I hope this one garners a reply from the Powers that Be.
