I'd say if you have one person continuously mashing the space bar to jump every time the character hits the ground. What you will see on another machine is something closer to an unfit person trying to keep up with a fit person doing jumping jacks. lol

Client 1 jumps.
Client 1 is in the air.
Client 1 starts to land.
Client 2 jumps.
Client 2 is in the air.
Client 1 lands.
Client 1 jumps.
Client 2 starts to land.
Client 1 is in the air.

It's going to look disastrous and completely out of sync. I mean you cant expect it to be completely 1:1 in terms of movement to placement but its going to be terribad. Chocobos will look really bad. I wouldn't be surprised if you see people on chocobos randomly speed up on your screen.

i hope they do and keep the servers cool at the same time.. i wouldn't mind regularly scheduled maintenance on the servers every week or twice a week if need be, CoH did back when i played that mmo. if they can just increase it..

besides the vid posted proves that lag had nothing to do with it.. both screens didn't jerk or freeze and if you look closely on the sending and receiving at the upper right hand conner of both screens neither one on either screen goes above three digits just an observation..

Do you know how fast a signal travels...? That extra distance is almost negligible.

Reps needs to not relay this information to Yoshi-P, but instead give him a link to the video and let him address it personally.

It's that serious.

-Have you ever been running throughout town, and seen a character(or enemy) in front of you jump into the ceiling or through walls?
-Have you ever attempted to heal somebody running next to you, only to be told they're out of range?
-Have you ever seen an enemy go Red with nobody in sight, only to see a party member run up 5 seconds later and attack with a melee strike?
-Have you ever done DH and seen one of the Eyes charge up their stationary AoE far away from you, then proceed to watch it 'glide' along the floor while charging until its right on top of you?
-Or, perhaps, experienced something like this?

*http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIJCQs-R7X4 * (I thought they added youtube embedding? :/ )

An extremely simple video that I think adequately shows the very root of the problem. While the video itself may seem 'trivial', rest assured the cause behind it is the same as in all the above examples.

I am, of course, talking about the horrid Server/Client relationship in Eorzea. These things happen to a very small extent in any online game, but to nowhere near the extremity of in FFXIV. All frustrating occurrences to say the least, and I think I'm being pretty kind phrasing it that way.

I've given nearly a year of leeway waiting for this to be fixed. It's crippling to all facets of gameplay, and quite frankly it's pretty darn embarrassing. All the content in the world won't make the game enjoyable if this has to be tolerated, and I shudder to think of the amplified effects it will have when we're moving at Chocobo speeds.

Every patch we hear about the 'server upgrades/optimizations', when are you going to get to the one that truly matters?
Don't mean to be negative but either the servers they bought can't handle this game or the people working on it did a very poor job optimizing them.

If it's an optimization problem then i think they should outsource some help and get some real professional with experience. But i think that it's probably the servers themselves that suck. I know someone said that in the collector edition video theres a making of video and it apparently says that they bought some top of the line servers for the game but i doubt that because Yoshi-P said in a comment or letter, dont remember for sure, that they are looking at upgrading/replacing the servers, which would mean they were not the best to start with.

Either way i wouldn't count on seeing any improvement on this as it seems to be a belief at SE that if you got content and stuff to enjoy yourself with you can live with the lag and server issues. FFXI was the same when it started out, it was lagging like hell and was telling myself it was normal for an mmo.... until i played other mmos....

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I mean we already have that happen with just running on foot (without speed buffs) so I can see this be greatly exaggerated once we get Chocobo.
