I'd like to point out aside from the glorious age of blinding tanks with Akh Morn coming they DID say they are giving more skills to pets so there may be incentive to use more than just Ruda....

Actually, Yoshi-P didn't say they're giving the Egi more skills. If you could link me to where you think he said that, I'll double check it, but when listening to the Japanese on the live letter (because the interpreter wasn't exactly on point, no offense to her), I heard nothing of the sort.

Don't dream small. I'm thinking for LB3, we do a full dreadwyrm trance and grow wings of Aether and then Terraflare the arena. Just saying: Pls be excited for E3.
I figured that would be it. I listened again, and I hear him saying rather than adding pets, in the long term it'd be better to focus on adding to the summoner him or herself. The English QA summary also says as much.http://www.twitch.tv/finalfantasyxiv/v/5280683 Start from 2 hours and 40 mins. He talks about bolstering the pets and adding actions.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2975182...instead of adding more pets, we felt it better to give more use to the job by adding actions to summoner.
A lack of new Egi abilities will not surprise me in the coming months after the expansion. Maybe in 4.0.
1. Yoshi-P never promised us new egis for the expansion. If you read each of the live letters (the actual letters, not something somebody quoted on reddit from someone else who talked about the live letter), he always says -if they did- add egis, it'd be when we raise the level cap, or -we're planning to- which is not quite a promise. Plans change. There has never been any "We are going to bring new egis out for Heavensward"
2. The Dreadwyrm Trance is actually more of a typical Final Fantasy summon attack. It shows up, does a few smaller attacks (i'm of the opinion that the little swirl attack in the trailer that's used right before Akh Morn is a mini-megaflare), does its big attack, then goes away. I kinda wish the dragon head would stick around during the duration of the Trance to both inform other party members at a glance what stance we're in, and to make a bit more of a summon.
3. Hopefully the new egi-glamour system comes out quickly, and hopefully they're smart and let people change what egis are summoned as a compromise. It was already stated you'll be able to summon Carbys (I'd imagine a new red one would be called for melee), but I'm hoping they also allow Shiva, Ramuh, and Levi to be swapped in. It'd be -really- awesome if you could use whatever egis for whatever role, but that's be a lot of work, so I'd settle for swapping the egi in each role for another (example: Caster: Garuda <-> Ramuh, Melee: Ifrit <-> Shiva, Tank: Titan <-> Levi). Same moves, but with the graphical effects changed to what's appropriate for the particular egi. (While they're at it, I'd like new skins for current egis that are more "mini-me" versions of the proper primals then the day-glo modern art pieces we've got now).
4. Summoners in the Final Fantasy series typically had another job's move set aside from just summons. FFIII had 3 classes that used summons, that used the same exact summons, just with different effects. Rydia was a (in fact, -the-) Black Mage in FF IV and really, the only time you'd use summons over her magic is against multiple mobs, or if for some reason you needed Asura because Rosa alone wasn't cutting it . You'd be foolish to not take another magic job as a subjob in FF V, and then it's the same problem of Rydia. Yuna was the primary WHM in FFX (at least until you got far enough in the sphere grid to have someone else do it. Plus if she did summon, the party would be replaced by the summon, which would take the enemy damage instead, meaning she didn't have to worry about WHMing. (Hell, in the later boss fights, you'd charge up your summons overdrives beforehand, 'cause the boss would just kill them right away, making summoning them completely pointless, otherwise.). Same with Eiko and Dagger in IX (except Dagger's Trance mode) In every other Final Fantasy, summons were a back-up ability that -everyone- could do.
Long story short, there has been no Final Fantasy (aside maybe III) that summons were the ONLY thing Summoners did, and for the most part, it was their secondary function. Rydia is a Black Mage that summons. Eiko, Dagger, and Yuna were White Mages that summoned. We're DoTers that summon.
Let's face it. Due to limited scope of FFXIV as far as party roles go (DPS, Tank, Heals, and nothing else), we've pretty much got every role covered already. Adding any more pets at this point would be completely superfluous. I'd rather them add new abilities new our current egis, then implement the above egi-swap system I listed above. They even could have to fight the new egis first before you get the ability to swap, and just have a thing that explains "Oh, SMNs can only can be "attuned" to 3 egis at once, though if you sit down for a moment and concentrate for a few, you can shift your available egis when you want", and then if they do ever add new egis, just say "Oh, you're powerful enough to handle more, now")

Carbuncles of every element have already been made and exist with in ARR's data. Here is a Dark Carbuncle http://xivmodels.com/?summon/m7002b0001_6/Carbuncle-VI
If you go through the Summon tab list you will also find models of the other Carbuncles of each element.
