forcing all mobs to have ranged attacks would make ranged dps life miserable while leveling , blm leveling would be a pain in the rear.....

while i would to see a tonberry tossing knives or using ballons to fly (cute)....not gonna happen

Actually I just went and checked, there are also other methods ground targets could deal with flying attackers that varies from mob to mob:
1. They might ranged attack back
2. They might fly up and attack
3. They have a special attack that they only use on a flying target that nullifies flight temporarily
4. They simply run away to their out most range where they reset and regain full HP

Low lvl crabs in Aion simply run away

I'm not seeing your point, if your referring to possibly being able to attack a ground target and it not being able to attack you, you're dead wrong. In Aion it's designed so if you tried attacking a ground target it would either ranged attack you or fly up to you and attack, I would expect FFXIV to be the same.

so you're not asking for wings, you're asking for full on aerial combat? that's tons of animation changes for every job and all the monsters as well. that's a use of development resources i would be violently against, fortunately, i'm confident there's no way they will do this.

Yeah, asking for wings as a different way of flying mounts is fine and something I'd love, but aerial combat is really too much to ask. I'm rather confident the OP would happily settle for just wings as a means of transport, though. Just throwing ideas out there, I'm sure.

actually i would be much more down for mounted areal combat than wings. and correct me if i'm wrong but when talking about heavensward back in the day didn't they say areal combat on mounts was a possible feature? of course i would assumed it would be implemented only on mobs that are flying mobs by default or some sort of flying pvp. again... hopefully mounted

So any game that allows your character to have wings is now Aion? How about using swords? They use swords in Aion, so every game that has swords is like Aion?

But Why change the context of this game to match one that already exists? I certainly don't want wing's I think it will look silly and that's my personal opinion. But seeming as you put it like that with the sword in context why don't we just go and play EQ or any other middle age RPG? Swords are more commonly used in Final Fantasy where as Wing's are not.

But this debate is getting silly it's just the same few people trying to make it seem sencical to all of a sudden to add wing's to our character's magically.

I've mentioned this before and I'll say it again, Aion sucks. It had great potential when it first came out, beautiful environments, good combat engine, nice customization of characters; but it failed horribly on game play, story, pvp.

Actually, no. I want full aerial content. As it is I view flying mounts as a nice glamor on mounts, nice but empty content; soon to be to passed to a second thought once the honeymoon fades away.

*edit- The things I'm asking for I wouldn't expect for atleast a year or two hence the title's "[Beyond Heavensward]" tagline and mentioning in the OP to maybe introduce personal wings as a final reward from the expansion, lord forbid we ask Devs to do dev work... and what a better chance to send FFXIV heavensward then a expansion called Heavensward...

Why don't you open your mind for five seconds and realize Aion isn't the only game with flight and wings. Actually the flight system is pretty weak if anything.

I guess I'll just need to bring up EQ2 (a very western mmo) every 3 pages or so for you biased people;
