No, we expect the work we've put into a YEAR LONG WEAPON GRIND won't be thrown away.
We fully expect to have to keep working to make it stronger than it is right now.
No it's not. Sorry but the effort put into relics should not be simply thrown away. I don't know what server you play on but there are tons of people just now completing their "zetas" and that effort should not be simply cast aside. One thing I do know is the "zeta" less crowd would simply love to see that. I don't think SE is quite that silly to make all those people mad. We'll have to wait and see.
Just like every major patch, those who cleared top content will have a boost on the new content. You won't just walk into Ishgard and get handed 10 levels of exp and ilvl150 gear. You'll need to farm it up, and better gear means a faster/easier trip.It amazes me people feel the need to have an advantage just because they mindlessly grinded for a weapon.
Does this mean FCoB raiders can feel the same way? "I cleared T13, so I want to have a head start for Alexander". Should crafters feel the same way too? Because that one would be fun.
Crafting has probably been the worst in that regard, you had to be at the top tier for the last patch to advance to the new content, or spend millions on catch up.
I just hope that anything in the future is linked to worthwhile challenges over meaningless grinding of low level stuff to increase your ilevel to the max, which is confusing. We went from fun/challenging boss fights to face rolling trash mobs.
Also to your point, the feeling you are going through right now has happened to quite a few of us multiple times over the last couple years, it's disheartening and I hope they really fix the overall system.
Maybe with them finally getting ahead of the game, they can do more on oversight.
An old Example is Savage Blade and Skull sunder being pld/war cross class. never would you use them, but then keen flurry is lancer and yea we dont get to play with that misplaced skill.
I hope we will get some sphere grid (FFX) or licence board (FFXII), even the crystarium system (FFXIII) was more fun...
I mean: To future upgrade the relict stuff.
That way the "old" progress can be done in 3.0 and its just a part of the whole board...

I get how it works, thanks. You still melded at least 40 million gil not counting failures. Or are you saying your time isn't worth much and you want to do all that over?
I really don't get how Relic is getting 'tossed aside'. It's the best weapon you can have (after Novus) right now and will be until at least the first major patch of Heavensward. It's not going to be 'just for glamour' when Heavensward hits because noone's going to be able to start in on Mythic till around level 60 (if the Relic quest is any indicator) and we have no clue how long that'll take. All the masochism in this thread is disturbing. So far the weapons have been following the same trends as XI, with Relic and Mythic being different weapons obtained in different ways. Just be glad that they didn't go whole hog with them. Relic in XI required you farm Dynamis for ancient currency as well as synth difficult to craft weapons for use as fodder while Mythic needed you delve Nyzul Isle to it's deepest depths.
I have Novus right now and im debating whether to finish it but to be fair if I do finish it it wont bother me in the slightest when i get a new weapon in heavensward, NO ONE has forced us to grind these weapons it was completely optional and nobody OWES you anything.
How will you be behind on the 3.1 relic when everyone is in exactly the same position? We don't actually know what completion of a Zeta will grant us; the common belief that it will give an advantage at the start of the new quest is just an assumption by players, it has never been stated by SE.
OP this thread has been created over and over. We get it, some people don't like the fact that their relics will be rendered obsolete in the expansion. It's mostly your own fault for believing it would ever be otherwise though; vertical progression expansions have to reset all progression for players coming into the expansion, else new players will never be able to catch up (which would generally mean few new players at all).
I don't know if anybody else has replied to this, but I'm going to say something. It's not unfair to new people just joining with Heavensward. Because they can go back and do the relic quest. From my understanding all the steps are getting nerfed anyway. So it will give you something to do 50-60. I think it's more unfair to those who have put the time and gil into the relics. People who put millions of Gil into stats on a relic deserve to keep those stats. If you want bonus stats, do a relic. If you don't care for the extra boost then don't worry about it.The problem is I highly doubt we'll keep our stats customization. It is unfair for new players that joined the game in Heavensward to have a relic with none min-max stats compared to other players that can. I find it really hard also to give the exact same item to a player that used his Zeta to keep his customed stats and another that didn't use a Zeta..
