Do you know which JP server was it that had ad spam? I've been in a JP server since beta. For about 2 months after launch we had crazy ad spams here, then they just died off completely. My last ad tell was about half a year ago, and only that one single tell.

As for your last question, yes there is definitely a cultural difference. Have you been to Japan before? Anyone that has been can tell you that they act differently from Westerners. The first thing you will notice is that they are very polite. Working with them, you will find that many of them seem to expect hard work before benefits, and they have a sense of honor and duty, but remains very humble. This is very different from the West where many wants instant gratification, and have very high self-entitlement ideas. There is definitely a very wide cultural difference.

I'll search the forum and find it in a sec. Were those ad spams you received in Japanese, or in English? If they were in Japanese I'll bet you it's the addition of the better filters that spare you guys that. The new spam is in the numerical and character swapped English.

You didn't answer my question at all. I have co-workers that visit Japan regularly and I've worked for a Japanese semiconductor company and am familiar with the much lauded humility. That wasn't what I asked you. Humility won't stop you from taking a shortcut. You also aren't factoring in the generational difference here. Players are buying gil there. They're going straight to the websites do to it rather than being plied by terrible /tell ads.

This has to be the biggest thing with Gil buyers. I'm sure if you could see the age groups that are buying it, we wouldn't be that surprised. Yougins, I'm sure there are older folks who do too, but the majority have to be under 21.

Side note, watch Gung Ho, classic flick about Japanese and American workers in the 80's.

The ad tell was in English.
I HAVE answered your question. Their cultural values makes them not want to take illegal short cuts. Did you know that japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world? They are very law-abiding people. Many of them would not want to buy gil illegally. It is the same even for the younger generation, as Japan still has very low crime rates today.
Let me ask you, what can you infer by no ad spams? Every ad spam account that is banned costs money to the gilsellers. They lose a lot of money ad spamming in jp servers, but have the opposite results in NA/EU servers. The fact they continue to ad spam, means the more they ad spam, the more people flocking to buy, making it very cost effective to keep buying new ad spam accounts. So, the fact that there is no ad spam in jp servers, implies that RMTs are not getting much customers. So I strongly disagree with you that jp players are secretly flocking to websites to buy.

I love you Radkat. I love you because you brought up the crime rate. Did you know that the police in Japan have a 95% arrest rate? Do you know what we call that statistic in the field of economics? A lie. The Japanese police only investigate crimes that they are nearly positive they can solve. Murders go reported as a "Found Body" if they don't have a suspect. The low crime rate in Japan is a fiction, just like the notion of a well behaved young population.

I absolutely love you too. So you are saying Japan has a high crime rate, even high murder rate? There is a very interesting world in your mind indeed.

No, I said that the low crime rate that they report is fiction. You do like to leap to conclusions don't you? Here's the thing, it is fiction. They may, likely do, have a low crime rate for a modern country, but the one they advertise isn't true.
